Soft Toys Safety Advice

There are many misconceptions and questions about soft toys and their safety. But one chord that rings true is the benefit that playtime brings to a child’s personal growth. The misconceptions about soft and cuddly toys can be split into two categories.

Soft toys and the huge variety of toys available play a vital part in a child’s development. Play time is about stretching your child’s imagination and helping them learn. No parent alive would want to miss the pleasure of seeing their child playing imaginatively with a selection of well designed toys.

No one forgets great toys from their childhood and some of the more popular toys are still around to this day. Unfortunately some of the toys we remember from our youth are remembered for the wrong reasons. Toys are a lot safer than they used to be but there are still aspects that every parent should be aware of when they pick a toy from the shop shelf.

Health and Safety Aspects of Soft Toys

The first aspect that you need to investigate before you purchase a toy is the age limit. But you shouldn’t take it for granted that the age limit is right for your child. Consider your child’s maturity and consider whether they would be safe with the soft toy.

If the toy is too small or too big it may not be suitable. Toys with small parts should not be given to children under the age of four (small buttons and eyes should be firmly secured) and even if your child is over four you should still consider whether they would put the small parts in their mouth.

Toys should have no sharp edges or sharp parts. This shouldn’t be a problem with most cuddly toys but check the toy over thoroughly. The same goes for loose threads or cords.

Make sure cuddly toys are stored well and in clean surroundings. Cuddly toys are especially prone to harbouring infections so wash them regularly on a high temperature wash and dry them thoroughly before you give them back to your child.
