KDE to be openSUSE default desktop?

,

There has been spark and heated due to this controversy. It was start at the end of July, when a new KDE eV Board member send a proposal to openSUSE's openFATE suggesting that the distribution should select KDE as the default desktop environment.

This has been backed by the recent survey, that more opensuse's user use KDE than Gnome. This has been resulted a heated discussion on the project mailing list. Michael Löffler, Product Management (SUSE LINUX Products GmbH) than post to mailing list that this features need to be address and will bring this matter to the openSUSE Board.

Several minutes later, after Michael Löffler post, Andreas Jaeger Director of Platform and openSUSE post to mailing list a Draft of Desktop Policy and suggested that this matter should be discuss openly at the openSUSE Conference, Germany this September.

From those mailing list, the opensuse team did not abundant the Gnome Desktop from the project. It's just a matter of choice to make KDE as their default Desktop Environment (DE). On the other hand, even if KDE has been chosen as the default DE, user still have a choice to select Gnome during pre-install or post-install.

Neither Gnome nor KDE are superior than others. Both of them are the descendant of the Free Open Source Software. We are living in the world of freedom. We are free to choose what is right for us. Right.

I love opensuse Gnome Desktop. It has a better look, polish and nice color palette. The next release Opensuse Sonar theme.

Kubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3 Test Drive

,

Recently, the ubuntu team has announce the alpha release for 9.10. I'm writing this post on KUBUNTU 9.10 alpha3. For more details on kubuntu release go here. After having a test drive with my most use applications for almost 1 week so here what I can summaries:

  • Kubuntu 9.10 use KDE 4.3 rc3. It has a lot of bugs but it becomes more polished looks. It's ok coz this is an alpha kubuntu release and the KDE itself still a release candidate.
  • Kubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.3 rc3 use Arora as a default web browser other then Konqueror.
  • Another test drive with Google Chrome in Kubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.3 rc3. The browser itself now stable but without flash plugin. You can however get the flash support by doing the instruction on linux-splash like this.
  • The lovely Opera Dragonfly in action
  • The OpenOfficeOrg 3.1 has KDE4 unified look on toolbar and menubar provided you install the openoffice.org-gtk
  • The Metatrader4 + wine on Kubuntu with OSX msstyle

The problem I'm facing are:

  • Kopete frequently crash but solved after apt-get upgrade & apt-get dist-upgrade command
  • Arora frequently crash
  • Kmail seldomly crash but solved after apt-get upgrade & apt-get dist-upgrade command
  • Grub 2 seem to install properly but cannot detect my windows xp. You will have a problem running on dual boot. But it's solved after running grub command from recovery mode at boot.

My Acer Aspire 5052 black out

Huh...

What to do now? My laptop lcd monitor black out since last month. I don't know what is the problem but there's only 2 thing came across my mind.

1. LCD problem
2. Graphic card problem

There's a lot of thing I want to share with all of you. It's interesting topic regards on windows, Ubuntu and Opensolaris.

Just before my laptop died, I've tried to make my synatics touchpad behave almost likely the Mac OS X multi gestures. I've succeeded both in Windows XP and Ubuntu. The 3 finger swap work flawlessly in windows XP. In Ubuntu, there's a need some tweak in the .fdi file. The 3 finger swap sometimes ok and sometimes not.

While on opensolaris, at last I've found the new multimedia repository that enable you to play most of media files for free (like medibuntu). The Life with Solaris at http://lifewithsolaris.jp/ was having an issue with license and distribution and advice user to delete all the package that has been downloaded. I've forgot the link and sitename since all firefox bookmark in my laptop.

I think that's all for now. Thank you for reading my blog. :-)

, ,

This post is out of computer topic... It is boring to talk on same topic. I've some friends who like to live online. Some of them engaged with online gaming at least 5-6 hours a day, some happily chatting online & love instant massaging after working hour till late night, some crazy on internet browsing. Every thing they know is always getting online. Even at mamak stall or McD they'll bring the laptop with them.

Damn you mamak & McD. You shoudn't have to install a WiFi at your stall & restaurant. Peoples come to eat and not getting online.

Well sometimes we've to realizes that instead of living online and chat with peoples that far thousand miles away, we need a real social life and communication at least with our neighbours.

What is happening to the world. A changing life style? Too different compare to my hometown (bandar baru serting).

Now, I'll show how (at least my hometown) a villagers do a good teamwork on my sister's wedding.
