There has been spark and heated due to this controversy. It was start at the end of July, when a new KDE eV Board member send a
proposal to openSUSE's openFATE suggesting that the distribution should select KDE as the default desktop environment.
This has been backed by the recent
survey, that more opensuse's user use KDE than Gnome. This has been resulted a heated discussion on the
project mailing list. Michael Löffler, Product Management (SUSE LINUX Products GmbH) than
post to mailing list that this features need to be address and will bring this matter to the openSUSE Board.
Several minutes later, after Michael Löffler post, Andreas Jaeger Director of Platform and openSUSE
post to mailing list a Draft of Desktop Policy and suggested that this matter should be discuss openly at the openSUSE Conference, Germany this September.
From those mailing list, the opensuse team did not abundant the Gnome Desktop from the project. It's just a matter of choice to make KDE as their default Desktop Environment (DE). On the other hand, even if KDE has been chosen as the default DE, user still have a choice to select Gnome during pre-install or post-install.
Neither Gnome nor KDE are superior than others. Both of them are the descendant of the Free Open Source Software. We are living in the world of freedom. We are free to choose what is right for us. Right.
I love opensuse Gnome Desktop. It has a better look, polish and nice color palette. The next release Opensuse Sonar theme.
