Many websites have sub domains. Each sub domain focuses on a different aspect of the business. A WildCard SSL Certificates provides virtually the same functions and security that any regular SSL certificate provides. A wildcard SSL Certificate comes in handy if many of your sub domains require security. A wildcard SSL certificate protects many of your sub domains along with the Main domain.

The validation process of the Cheap WildCard SSL certificate is the same as that of a regular one. The main difference between the two is that a regular certificate protects only your main domain but a Wildcard certificate protects the sub domains as well.

For example if a website "http://www.yourdomain.com" has many sub domains then using a regular domain will not protect the sub domains. It will only protect the main domain which is http://www.yourdomain.com. In order to protect the sub domains, one would have to have a wildcard SSL certificate.

Why is it important to secure sub domains?

A sub domain is normally seen as a separate website that is hosted under the main domain. Search engines recognize each of the sub domains as a different website though the main domain is the same. It is not enough to protect the main domain if the website has several sub domains. You need to have a SSL certificate that covers each of the sub domains on your site. This is because customers can be hesitant to do transactions over a non secure site. A wildcard SSL Certificate will avoid you the problem of buying separate SSL certificates for all of the sub domains.

As wildcard SSL certificates secure many sub domains, many of the providers misuse them and cheat customers by selling cheap or free fake SSL certificates. They buy Wildcard SSL certificates for their domains. When customers Buy WildCard SSL, they create sub domains under their own domain names. These are meaningless and provide no security at all. They don't even authenticate the customer's identity and are owned by the service provider.
