Opera Vector Logo [EPS]

, ,

I like the image from the "Where's Opera" competition:

It looks great as for me! It's glassy, it's fresh and IT'S NEW! But... It's raster nnd thus it can't give me the flexibility I want :frown:

And I've decided to trace it and here's what I get:

This is a screenshot of 200% scaled images. At the left — vector I've traced and at the right - original image.

Here you can see the advantages of the vector format at this case.
You can download the source file in EPS format (Encapsulated PostScript) right from here.

WARNING! It's not the clipart! To use it you must first ask the author!

The problem with vektors is that there's no standardized format. I've been doing vektor art since about 1987 on the Atari ST using Calamus (.CVG) format, then on the PC with PaintShop Pro (which has a shitty vector toolset). I've never been able to successfully share them with anyone 'cause there's no common ground. .EPS lacks some features, nothing supports the PSPro format, and of course .CVG is two decades old. And of course I refuse to support Adobe.

Nice work on the O. It's very shiny. =)

 Thanks, but i've just traced that logo... Be honest - I swallow that image because of the shiny look too

PaintShop Pro is mostly for raster 'drawing' as far as I know. Adobe is now the world leader at the graphic and media fields. And it's very comfortable to work in it's applications. IMHO.

Yes, you can't do all the stuff with the EPS but you can do MUCH of it! And it's open format so you can read it and then edit in any program that supports it and on any platform actually... So, now it's the only way I think

Thanks for the comment

PaintShop Pro can do some nice things, it's just a lot of work. =)

I made that with PSPro. There are some more pics here.

Wow! Great work I'd say! Did you saw my topic about The Power Of Vector Graphics?

Will wait your comments there as well

Cool!
Would be even better if you convert this to SVG.
Don't forget that Opera 9.5 supports SVG as background or as source for IMG element.

melnichuck 7. September 2007, 18:55

:-O amazed! it's only about 10 Kb in size!!!

SVG version

FataL 7. September 2007, 18:59

Super!
Now all you need is update your post and include link and image version like that:

Update: Ooooops! Opera 9.5 Alpha 1 crashed :frown:
Better I remove the image...

melnichuck 7. September 2007, 19:05

yeah! the same for me... now it's good

Update: maybe we should put it in back here and link this page as a bug trigger?

FataL 7. September 2007, 19:08

Mmmmm... I would better put a test page there...
Or lets just put this image to Desktop Team blog as comment

(и какого Х мы по буржуйски говорим?)

FataL 7. September 2007, 19:19

Hmmm...
Opera not crashes there.

melnichuck 7. September 2007, 19:20

 the same for me... let's put it in here and try again

FataL 7. September 2007, 19:25

I will try to copy HTML of this page to my server w/o CSS and see if it still crashes.

FataL 7. September 2007, 19:34

Not crashes w/o CSS but crashes with.
Will investigate it further.

FataL 7. September 2007, 20:20

So, I found a crasher code:
<div s*tyle="float:left"></div>
<img src="opera-glassy-logo.svg" />
* added to fool a parser
Test

melnichuck 7. September 2007, 20:29

hm... it's interesting! and it works? i mean floating?

FataL 7. September 2007, 20:45

Float works. But it crashes Opera 9.5 Alpha 1.
I posted my discovery to Opera forum.
