Dubaiye Yolculuk

Yakında Dubai'ye gitmeyi planlıyorum. Şimdiki Oytek'teki yazılım mühendisliği işimden ayrılacağım. Yeni işim programcılık üzerine olmayacak. Dubai'de yeni kurulacak bir GSM operatörünün stratejik işletme planlarının oluşturulmasında yer alacağım. Diamond Cluster adlı bir danışmanlık firmasının projesi.

Yeni ve yabancı kültürler beni her zaman cezbetmiştir. Farklı insanlarla tanışmak, onların açısından dünyaya bakmak ve onlarla arkadaş olmak çok hoşuma gider. Ama şimdi Dubai'ye gitmenin öncesinde içimde bazı kararsızlıklar da yok değil. Bir yandan yabancı bir kültüre gitmek, farklı bir iş ortamında çalışmak fikri beni çekiyor. Diğer yandan Ankara'daki kurulu hayatımı bırakmak, ailemden ve dostlarımdan ayrılmak biraz zor geliyor. Ayrılık fikri insanı üzüyor. İşin kötüsü yeni hayatımda yeniden iyi insanlarla arkadaşlık kurabilirsem, bu sefer de oradan ayrılmak bana ağır gelecek.

Hayırlısı neyse o olsun... Ayrılık biraz acı da olsa, çok öğretici bir deneyim. Ayrılıklar olmasa insan, sahip olduklarının ne kadar kıymetli olduğunun farkına kolay kolay varamazdı...

Developing Custom Language Plugins

The last two days I was trying to understand how to develop custom language plugins in IntelliJ. There is an article on this issue: http://www.yole.ru/CustomLanguagePlugins.html But it is very hard to follow what it says. So I give up. Maybe someday I will go through it again.

The important lesson from this activity was any article should explain the core of the idea in less than 5 minutes.

My first IntelliJ Plugin

I woke up early today and developed my first IntelliJ plugin. Actually it is not mine. I just followed the tutorial. But it is nice to be able to write a tool even under guidance.

I like IntelliJ very much. It is nonobstrusive and very helpful application when writing code. Therefore I want to use this tool for other purposes too apart from developing java software. My ultimate dream is to use IntelliJ for writing Ruby on Rails applications.

My first Opera Widget

I have just written my first Opera widget. It seems nice. I have some ideas to implement on these widgets. One of them is a reminder application. The reminder will show the user the things that he wants to be reminded. The data entry may be done through opera's widget. But actual application will be a web application. Opera's widget will work as a client.

Opera, benim en beğendiğim yazılımlardan biri. Yalnızca bir browser olarak değil, genel olarak bir yazılım deyince, en iyi kullanışlılık özelliklerine sahip yazılımlardan biri olarak görüyorum.

İnsanı hiç rahatsız etmeyen bir yapıda bir yazılım nasıl tasarlanır sorusuna yanıt bulmak için, Opera iyi incelenmeli. Opera'yla bir RSS feedinden gelen yeni bir mesajın veya tamamlanmış bir dosya indirilmesinin haberini, yaptığınız işe hiç engel olmayan bir tarzda öğrenebilirsiniz. Sağ alt köşede bir mesaj bir iki saniyeliğine çıkar ve sonra kendiliğinden kaybolur. Hiç bir butona tıklamanız gerekmez.

Opera'yı hemen hemen hiç mouse kullanmadan kullanabilirsiniz. Veya mouse kullanmak istiyorsanız, hiç geri ileri gibi butonlara basmadan kullanabilirsiniz.

Operanın dışında kullanışlılık konusunda örnek aldığım iki yazılım daha var: IntelliJ Idea ve Keynote. Bu ikisi de mükemmel kullanışlılık özelliklerine sahip.
