ACTIVITY
The bridegroom,dresses in a blue blazer and Brown,suede Adidas sneakers,nervously cleared his throat when his bride,in traditional white,walked down the classroom aisle.As the mock minister led the students –ten other couples in the room – through the familiar marriage ceremony,the giggles almost drowned him out.But it was no laughing matter.In the new semester,each couple would buy a house,have a baby – and get a divorce.
A) There are some words that students may not know but they can guess them from the context.
Examples Students can understand that :
bridegroom : is a man who marries in a wedding ceremony.
(from his wearing and the phrase “his bride”)
bride : is a woman who marries in a weddind ceremony.
(from her wearing and the phrase “his bride”)
aisle : is a place (hall) where people can walk.
(from the phrase “walked down the classroom aisle”)
giggle : is a kind of laughing.
(from the sentence “it was no laughing matter”)
-Say “Use these words in your own sentences.”
“Find words which are related to ‘giggle’.”
• There is a word which students may not guess the meaning from the context.
Ex : divorce (Give some clues = Couples marry and they begin not to get along with eachother.They decide to divorce and go to the lawyer.)
• There is a word which students can not guess.
Ex : drown out (v) : to overpower esp. with noise.
