Grandpa (my husband, John) with Jordan - Jordan yawning - Grandma (me) with Jordan
We headed out to the hospital shortly after I entered my last post. We arrived to find out that our grandbaby had been born just shortly before we left the house.
Alixandria finally had her baby after 14 days of early labour, 1 day of heavy labour, 3 hours of pushing, and finally by Caesarean Section.
Jordan Mercedes was born at 6:14 PM Pacific Time on Sunday 4 Feb 2007. She weighed in at 10 lbs 3 oz (4.6 Kg) and was 21.5 in (54 cm) long. She's a beautiful baby with dark curly hair and it looks like her eyes might end up being blue, green, or somewhere in between.
Mike, Jordan's Daddy, was tired; and shaken from the experience of seeing his wife having to undergo the trauma of a Caesarean Delivery. He was there with Jordan, his mother, and his stepfather. He cradled Jordan in his arms for a time, and then put her in the bassinet.
While she was waiting for her Mama to be released from the recovery room, Jordan cried because she was hungry, and sucked on the towelling she had been swaddled in.
When Alix was brought to the room, she got settled in, the nurse checked her over, and then she set straight to the task at hand. She needed only a small amount of coaching to get Jordan properly latched and nursing.
Once hunger was satisfied, Jordan was calm and alert taking in her surroundings and bonding with her mother who had not been able to hold her until she was brought to the hospital room.
After nursing and bonding, the rest of us were allowed to spend time holding Jordan, who had to be held very tightly to feel secure.
I am just in awe!
