We completed our move & arrived in our new home very early on the 13th after a 17.5 hour drive (including stops). The moving truck with all our stuff arrived on the 15th, so we're back in boxville, but oh so happy to be together again as a family - and in a much nicer house than we've ever had.
We got our son registered in an exceptionally good school, and he is really enjoying it. His teacher is fabulous! The only issue I have with the school is that they don't start French as a second language instruction until grade 2, so I'll have to look for outside classes for my son so he doesn't lose what he acquired in Kindergarten. It's a bit pricey, but according to the lady I spoke to, he should be fluent inside of a year. While he's doing that, I'll be polishing up my French via a course through the Military Family Resource Center. I just have to find a babysitter in case my husband has to work when I have to be in class.
Our next tasks (other than unpacking which will be ongoing for probably a couple of months) will be to get appropriate clothing for my son & me to cope with the harsh winters that are the norm here. Our vehicle registration and drivers licenses need to be attended to as we are now in a different province. We will also have to replace the windshield on the van because it is badly cracked and could outright break in severe cold. There is so much to do, but I'm very happy to be having to do it.
Yesterday we went to our 1st CFC Cluster Assembly in our new town, and it was great. We felt so welcome. Today we will be meeting with the local Serena team, who are excited to have us join them.
