Franca Pauli and Dario Colombo, graphic designer and photographer, work in the field of design and communication with their company Balilla Enterprises. They are also the conceivers of a foundation for contemporary culture, Clio, with which for a number of years they have been pursuing a broad and democratic approach to design: their competitions, organised every two years, are open to all with no limits in terms of age, profession, qualifications or education and are an invitation to build objects by hand. After asking participants to design a lamp and a game, the brief for this year, the third edition of the competition (entitled ‘Roba’), is to make an item clothing.
All the designs entered will be brought together in an exhibition (at the Museo Santa Caterina in Treviso from 16 to 30 June), a book will be published and then they will be sold at a charity auction to raise money for Unicef for the distribution of rehydration packs in Africa. The three winners (announced 30 June) will each receive a prize of 2000 euro.

Franca Pauli e Dario Colombo, grafica e fotografo rispettivamente, si occupano attraverso la loro agenzia Balilla Enterprises di design e comunicazione.
Sono anche gli ideatori della fondazione per la cultura contemporanea Clio, con la quale da alcuni anni stanno portando avanti un’idea democratica e allargata di design: i loro concorsi, infatti, organizzati con cadenza biennale, sono aperti a tutti senza limiti di età, professione, titolo di studio o formazione e sono un invito diretto a costruire, a usare le proprie mani per realizzare oggetti. Dopo avere chiesto ai partecipanti di progettare una lampada e un gioco, la terza edizione del concorso (‘Roba’ il titolo) propone quest’anno di realizzare un abito con le proprie mani.
Tutti i progetti pervenuti saranno raccolti in una mostra conclusiva (al Museo Santa Caterina di Treviso dal 16 al 30 giugno), saranno pubblicati in un volume e saranno infine venduti attraverso un’asta benefica che raccoglierà fondi per il progetto Unicef per la distribuzione di bustine reidratanti in Africa. Per i tre vincitori (che saranno proclamati il 30 giugno) sono previsti altrettanti premi da 2.000 euro ciascuno. E.S.

The process of upgrading the Camp Nou [FC Barcelona stadium] to a world class venue has started. During the coming months, architects from around the world will have the opportunity to submit their proposals for a profound remodeling of a stadium that will celebrate its 50th anniversary on September the 24th of this year. It is the objective of the club to reach this goal through a fair and open process. The selection of the proposal for the remodeling of the Camp Nou will be by an international tender, organized by FC Barcelona, that will be supported by the Association of Architects of Catalunya, which will contribute the necessary expertise for selecting the architect, or team of architects, who will be commissioned to undertake the design and guidance of the project.

La labor para conseguir que el Camp Nou sea de nuevo el estadio más moderno y confortable del mundo ya ha empezado. En los próximos meses, arquitectos de todo el mundo tendrán la posibilidad de presentar sus propuestas para remodelar a fondo un estadio que el próximo 24 de septiembre cumplirá 50 años. La voluntad del Club es que éste sea un proceso modélico y transparente.
La fórmula establecida para la selección del proyecto para remodelar el Camp Nou será a través de un concurso internacional de ideas, que será tutelado por el Colegio de Arquitectos de Cataluña, la entidad que aportará todo el asesoramiento necesario para seleccionar el arquitecto o el equipo de arquitectos encargados del diseño y de la dirección de la obra.

Design a chair, sofa or stool that is an expression of our time is the challenge set by US studio Luvo Design to designers and architects around the world. “The function of the chair has remained the same for centuries – write the organisers – but its design has evolved over time in terms of technology, form and production, in response to changes taking place within our society”.
The ambitious aim is therefore to create a chair that symbolises the 21st century, in the same way that the curved beech chair by Charles and Ray Eames did the 1950s or the tubular steel chair by Marcel Breuer the 1930s.

Disegnare una sedia, un divano o uno sgabello che siano espressione del nostro tempo. È la sfida lanciata dallo studio statunitense Luvo Design e rivolta a designer e progettisti di tutto il mondo. “La funzione della sedia è rimasta la stessa nei secoli – scrivono gli organizzatori –, ma il suo progetto si è evoluto con il passare del tempo: dal punto di vista tecnologico, della forma e della produzione, per venire incontro ai cambiamenti in atto all’interno della nostra società”.
L’ambizioso obiettivo è dunque quello di creare una seduta che diventi il simbolo del XXI secolo, così come le sedie in faggio curvato di Charles e Ray Eames lo sono state per gli anni Cinquanta o la sedia in tubolare di acciaio di Marcel Breuer per gli anni Trenta.

uorisalone.it, Poli.design and Zona Tortona have launched a competition titled Surviving Fuorisalone for the creation of a survival kit for the Fuorisalone in Milan. Open to students, architects, designers and artists of every age and nationality, this competition aims at developing a project, an idea or a service that is able to support and facilitate the activities that will be held during the design week. The most interesting projects will be implemented and will become part of the survival kit. They will be exhibited in one of the spaces of Zona Tortona during the week from 5th to 10th April, when the Furniture Exhibition will take place in Milan. The projects should be sent
