A collateral section within the framework of the Sensi Contemporanei project
Palermo - 15th October 2006 to 14th January 2007
City – Port ,a collateral section of the 10th International Architecture Exhibition curated by Rinio Bruttomesso, and organized within the framework of the Sensi Contemporanei project, is articulated into four exhibitions located, for the first time in the history of the Biennale di Venezia, in Palermo in three different venues , and will be exhibited in other port cities in southern Italy in 2007.
City – Port. Local Gate to the Global Market will be the international exhibition hosted in the splendid nineteenth-century Palazzo Forcella de Seta, kindly made available by the Sicilian chapter of ANCE and currently being restored by architect Italo Rota, who is also responsible for the design of the exhibition. Organized in collaboration with Puertos del Estado – Ministerio de Formento, Spain, and the Korea Land Corporation, Seoul, Korea, it will present a panorama of 15 case studies of port cities on different continents, with plans and projects involving their urban-port waterfronts: Oslo, Helsinki, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Rotterdam, Rosario (Argentina), Valparaiso (Chile), Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Cape Town, Incheon (Korea), Yokohama, Sydney, Genoa and Venice. A special space will be dedicated to the city-ports of Spain , which relied on a concept of national system not only to modernize their ports, but to make their port cities more livable, by revitalizing their waterfronts with results that often achieve absolute excellence.
City – Port. Great South , located in the venue of S. Erasmo, will focus on 10 port cities in the south of Italy to offer an overall view of initiatives to requalify urban-port waterfronts, some complete and others in the planning stages, by the city governments and Port Authorities in 5 Italian regions: Pescara in the Abruzzo region; Naples and Salerno in the Campania region; Bari and Brindisi in the Puglia Region; Reggio Calabria in the Calabria region; Catania, Messina, Siracusa and Trapani in Sicily.
City-Port. Palermo, Mediterranean, which is also on exhibit at S. Erasmo given the affinity between the themes, has been produced in collaboration with the Regione Siciliana, the City of Palermo, the Port Authority of Palermo, the Officina di Architettura del Porto, Palermo. The exhibition will be dedicated to Palermo ’s experience in reorganizing its port and its urban waterfront.
The two exhibitions at S. Erasmo , a former locomotive warehouse built at the turn of the twentieth century and belonging to the City of Palermo , have been designed by CLIOSTRAAT (alessandra raso, luca poncellini, matteo raso, stefano testa).
City – Port. Portus Architecture Prize , organized by Expa at the Galleria di Architettura Expa in the ancient stables of Palazzo Cefalà, will present the winning projects in the Portus Architecture Prize for the 7 regions of southern Italy participating in the Sensi Contemporanei project.
The Portus Architecture Prize has been organized under the patronage of the CNAPPC Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori, in collaboration with Inarcassa, Edilizia e Territorio – Il Sole 24 Ore, InArch. The prize is addressed to architects, engineers and landscape architects under the age of 40, who must define solutions for the requalification of urban waterfront zones, selected in the 7 Regions of southern Italy involved in the Sensi Contemporanei project.
The design projects will be evaluated by an international jury presided by Richard Burdett, Director of the 10th International Architecture Exhibition of the Biennale di Venezia.
The website www.premioportus.it , created for the occasion, will accompany professionals and potential visitors through the date of inauguration, describing the progress and the stages of adv ancement of the project.
The catalogue, published by Marsilio , will be articulated in two volumes: a thematic monograph and a volume on the Portus Architecture Prize .
Rinio Bruttomesso (Italy , 1948), is a professor of City Planning at the IUAV, Venice . Since 1989 he has been Director of the International Centre for Cities on Water in Venice , as well as director of “Portus” magazine. He curated the Cities on Water section (dedicated to the transformation of port cities) in the 9th International Architecture Exhibition, he is an expert on the issues involved in the requalification of urban waterfront areas and on the reuse of industrial archaeology.
KOREA LAND CORPORATION
in collaboration with the project “I.F.E.Z. (Incheon Free Economic Zone)” is one of the participants in the exhibition City-Port. Local Gate to the Global Market within the collateral section entitled City-Port, curated by Rinio Bruttomesso, that will be realized in Palermo on the occasion of the 10th International Architecture Exhibition of the Biennale di Venezia.
KLC was founded as one of the public institutions affiliated with Korean Ministry of Construction & Transportation to spearhead effective development and management of land and has since been the engine of Korea's economic development and improving standards of living and also strives for more competitiveness in land utilization activities, through effective performance of all related operations including acquisition, management, planning, development, and provision of suitable land.
Structure and Personnel
There are currently 2,200 professional staffs specializing in land, real estate and construction, performing appropriate tasks at the head office, as well as 12 regional offices located throughout the nation.
Management Philosophy
KLC conducts its land development projects as a means of making vital contributions to the nation's economy, and at the same time improving the welfare of citizens. Also, motto of more efficient business management is carried out not with words alone, but through professionalization and specialization of business ability.
