I love your photos of all the different varieties and colors of hydrangeas. I love these flowers and have sold these varieties when I used to work at the plant nursery, which is owned by a wonderful Japanese lady named Kazuko.

Hi Linda. Thanks for stopping by. happy

I grew up in a western suburb of Tokyo and this area was where you'd go as a kiddy for a family summer outing on beach or a date when you're older. bigsmile (Shonan means the southern coast because it's the coastal area south of Tokyo.) I had visited the area many times but never noticed how beautiful the hydrangeas were there.

I don't have the green fingers but some of my aunties grew beautiful specimens. Would be lovely to own a nursery. smile

Retail nurseries aren't very lucrative here anymore, MM, because places like Lowe's and WalMart's has run most of them out of business. Independent small nurseries can't compete with the prices, and most people are more interested now in quantity or price rather than quality.

I have to say I've been guilty putting pricing ahead of quality. Only recently I've realised buying cheap stuff often works out dearer as I'd have to replace them sooner. But that's easier said than done when your purse string gets tighter everyday.

And that's how the big guys put the little ones out of business. But I can't blame people for trying to save money in these days and times; however, you just don't get the benefit of knowledgeable people (usually) from those places that you can get from someone who has worked with the plants for sometimes their whole lives. I just regret it has to be that way because----you KNOW how badly WalMart needs money!!!http://files.myopera.com/L2D2/STUFF/Smilies//tempertantrum.gif -
