It's been quite a few months since I've logged in. 2007 ended up with me working a lot more than I planned to. When 2007 began, my resolution list was a list of things I would do and see. Yea...that didn't quite happen. Hopefully this year it will. This past Saturday, a few coworkers and myself decided to take a trip to the American Museum of Natural History. Ideally, we wanted to see the show Mythic Creatures. All that time we procrastinated in 2007 resulted in the show being sold out
That didn't stop us, we ended up seeing Dinosaurs Alive. It wasn't quite what we expected. And we got to see a few exhibits as well. I've managed to convince my fellow co-workers to do a monthly "cultured" outing, whether it was going to a museum or any other interesting stuff going on. The plan is twice a month--first and third Saturday of every month. Well, we'll see if we get to stick to it since we all often put in a few extra hours and if we have any energy left come Saturday.
So the plan is to see a bunch of museums and the zoo. Then when it gets warmer, hopefully, we will actually do paintball.
I recently bought a new digital camera to retire my old Nikon Coolpix 3200. My 3200 is okay, but dear Lord the lag time between shots was like molasses. So, I bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-W55. This past Sunday, I ran out to take a few test shots. It came out pretty decent, if my hand would stop shaking. I was thinking of exchanging it for the next model up, but I looked at available accessories and decided I would stay with the W55 because I can get telephoto lens attachment and a flash slave. Maybe if I get more photo-savvy (i.e., take good photos without chopping the heads), just something I wouldn't mind having.
I've uploaded some photos from my test shots to a photo album.
Today on my way home from work completely brain dead. I saw something, a poster ad that was familiar, but didn't process it until I exited the subway.
During the summer, there are a lot of movies and often during the summer, supposedly the better movies come out. So, we've had bats, Kryptonians, spiders, FPS and survival horror games hit the big screen. Now this time, robots. Not just robots, Transformers...robots in disguise.
The movie is coming out July 4. Check out the links below.
The movie could be good or it could be a flop. Makes me wonder, could Voltron be next? Did a little digging and of course, a Voltron movie will be coming out, too.
It's way past night, morning to be exact. Sun is up and yet again, not tired. Really thinking about signing up for a sleep study to find out why I can't sleep lately. And the moments I do, I'll wake up around 2 or 3am and can't go back to sleep until a few hours later.
I was considering going to the doctor to get some sleeping pills and the friends and co-workers were all against it and suggest I take Tylenol or Advil PM because sleeping pills are bad. That, I don't quite get as if taking over the counter drugs be would be any better. Well, I'm going to try to sleep and see if there's any success.
I really like Google Maps, I think it's a lot more accurate than MapQuest. I used to think that MapQuest was good until a friend of mine who often has no problem getting lost amazingly used MapQuest and got lost. The only reason was because the information was wrong.
Anyhow, if you're like me, sometimes when you're going to an area you're not sure about and would like to see photos of the area you're going. Google Maps now have that nifty little feature where you can do that. Just search a location a usual, then click on the "Street View" button. Click on the areas highlighted in blue and you'll see a pic, which you can zoom in/out, pan around. Arrows on the map allow you to go in that direction and show what's there while you're in street view mode.
So far it seems pretty good. The street view option is only available in major public cities such as Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, and Miami. If other cities become available, you will see the street view button.
Here are some pics below.
San Francisco - Fisherman's Wharf
Las Vegas - Mandalay Bay
New York City - 34th Street, Herald Square, Macy's
I just came across this and I it looks pretty cool. I'm a bit of a gadget person. Anyhow, Microsoft has a new product called Surface that's a 30-inch long table PC. It's pretty much a kiosk that's "smart". Put your camera phone or digital camera and poof, your photos are on the table. No need for USB cables or a card reader. You can grab the photos and resize them with your fingers, finger paint on the surface, listen to music, etc. by dragging elements with your fingers.
The Surface will first be available at hotels, casinos and other public places. I really like the Surface and would like to have one, but not at the hefty price tag of $10,000 USD. Microsoft plans to offer an affordable version for the home within three to five years, but I expect it to be something around $5,000 USD minimum...probably.
Since the team that developed the Surface is the same that developed the Xbox 360. Supposedly, Microsoft will also use the Surface for the gaming arena. How or what games...dunno.
I've added some photos to my photo album (Microsoft Surface) and a video from Popular Mechanics below.
and it's waaaayyy past 3am, yet I can't sleep. Major issue of the "no shut eye syndrome". So, I'm on here checking blogs, reading news, listening to music, and writing this entry. I came across some interesting news that I thought others might be interested to know about.
And if you're interested in astronomy, well, 28 "exoplanets" have been found. Hmmm...just reminded me of the huge debate of Pluto: is it a planet or not.
Ok, almost 4am now and I need to get up in a few hours to go to work...time to try to get some sleep.
