BSM Collection 2010
as seems to happen fairly often (well, semi-regular, at least), i'm gonna have a ramble about something music related. todays ramble is about Big Scary Monsters Recording Company. it's another one of these "indie" record labels that i seem to like so much, the big sister/brother company of Alcopop, with a slightly more (i hate to use the term in this context) professional manner (for Alcopop see below). it's run by a gentleman who goes by the name of Kev, who although somewhat lacking in the "get up and post stuff" requirements of life has a DAMN good ear for a great band. out of the 22 bands with photos on the artists section of the BSM website (ie those i could be bothered to count) there are only 4 bands whose albums i have not bought. so thats 18/22. i'm not a gambling man (smoke drink humanise etc sure) but i am fairly certain that 18 out of 22 is good odds. anyway, with the preamble aside, the point of the ramble was:
last year Big Scary Monsters did a subscription deal thing, whereby you got four cds (one each season) in a snazzy metal case, limited to 365 copies. below is hopefully an image of said snazzy tin...

BSM Collection 2009
on said collection were some amazing rare songs and covers and demos and stuff of many of the bands affiliated with bsm. basically it was a damn fine deal, i got some right good music, rather cheap, and my drive to work each morning was that bit brighter because of it.
this year, Kev seems to be a little more ambitious. rather than one cd per three months, he is releasing one mp3 single per week. PER WEEK. that's 52. no cds or snazzy cases this time (that case was great), which will be missed, but as a replacement, there is a t shirt so you can advertise good music to everyone (and save Kev on billboard posters, which are no doubt a massive drain on his coffers).
week one, ie this week, is Tangled Hair, which is a new project by one of the folks from Colour. i've yet to listen to it, but with 18 out of 22 odds (and the fact that Colour were so great) i'm fairly confident it'll be amazing. so, 52 mp3s, one each week, for the paltry sum of 15 of your heard earned english pounds.
