The Cure

It's official

Well for those that peruse this neck of blogtopia... We are heading to Connecticut...I will be here through Christmas and then I start Jan 2 out east. After negotiations I was able to get almost what I asked for. It wasn't as arduous for me as I thought it could be, but it's because my future employer tought I was worth what I was asking.

Things to accomplish:

1) We need to sell our home: http://www.utahrealestate.com/839367 ...
It's a soft market I know but the Utah market should still be good. We're basically just trying to break even after being it in for a little more than 8 months now.

2) Figure out what my wife and I will do....options include....me going and she staying until we sell....renting the house here until the market levels if ever....
and any others we haven't discovered yet....

3) Throw Dennis a birthday party. He'' be 3 on Nov 25th. We're trying to do a Wall-E theme. I think a few people were rather pissed about the underlying message of the movie, but I think Dennis loved it despite those fat fat fat people who tend to object.

4) Fly out and visit and look at the area again....Meet witht he realtor.....turn in some materials to my new masters....

5) Plenty of other things not worth laying down here in the public domain.

It's been a rather interesting process. We totally know it is the right choice for us and Denns, it's completely frustrating that USU didn't even try to counter. My boss and Vice President encouraged me to allow them to have a chance but I guess once reality set in and budget cuts at the university were announced, they thought it best to hedhe and hide behind budget cuts. Oh well. I am finding out really fast who those that really respect and admire me are and those that are out to only better themselves. In many respects I am rather excited and interested in the Ivy League experience that is right in front of me. Not only is it the Ivy League, it is in the #1 law school in the USA. They found me and even closed matched my counterproposal through the negotiations period.

I will be the Associate Registrar there and it will be doing nearly the same thing I do here just with a different sized student population. Currently our student information system sees approx 32000 seperate students in various forms and I manage and lead the whole student system. Compared to where I am heading, I will manage approx 700 Law students. I hope that even though they may be a more finicky population, that their advanced pursuit of knowledge will be refreshing. I am excited by the new opportunity and grateful that my wife is willing to do this too. I will be good to have her nearer to her family and more accessible to them as things move forward. My father can fly right into the nearest airport. So we'll be accessible to most of the family, but also far enough away to know of their intent before someone knocking on our door.

Anyway, off to more preperations and trying to figure things out. I will probably going out before my wife solo and will be doing the pseudo bachelor thing for a time. We hope that we cann sell or rent our home here so that we won't have to play that game and that we can find a home out there to rent at least or find a steal on a foreclosure out there so that we can minimize the transition period vis a vis home things. This will defintely be a new adventure with some interesting opportunities. i hope that can step up to the expectations of those that have presented me this offer, and also more than satisfy their needs. Anyway, off to reality and siging off from blogtopia.....

cheers.....

About 'Bleeding Blue'

Well, its been a few weeks since I have blogged anything worthwhile. Over the past few weeks I have been involved in a search for a position back at Yale. It started about Sept 22 and I visited on-site on Sept 30. Somewhere along the line, I convinced them to offer me the position. Now I have a counter proposal I asked them to entertain and it appears I just may get it. It has been a rather interesting effect. The #1 law school in the nation has just asked me to be Associate Registrar, and the school I currently work for will not counter offer due to budget cuts. now I admit and understand that business is business but here's a few things I have written in the recent past concerning my position and thoughts:

"I don’t perceive that my boss, nor Vice President will try to make a counter, and will hide firmly behind budget cuts. Everyone has their own prerogatives, and for that I shake my head as what motivation does that provide the USU fabric and its employees. I did a frank poll of a few of the employees that work in our office and the question was ‘do you give 110% effort in the USU workplace’. Not one candidly admitted to even a 100% effort. I know that the Yale Law School is a dream (#1 Law school offering to me the position of Associate Registrar), and I do have a counter-proposal in process with them and I am pending that. I do have the initial offer and details.

I guess my real philosophy is in the interest of general USU employees in mine and other organizations. Know that I will make the best decision for me and my family, but I respect the USU community as well and believe I must offer due diligence. If a counter is not even offered (really counter with 100-500 dollars, although small at least something) then what message does that send to employees when they see one that the USU fabric esteems as a solid person and they don’t even try to counter (regardless if it’s a highly esteemed organization or not). Of course the motivation will remain low and may even decrease the effort they are willing to provide as long as it doesn’t damage their day to day salary and benefits from USU. I want to believe that many USU employees come for other reasons than just security and stability regardless of the stigma Higher Education has and why people choose it for employment. Education and knowledge is such a noble pursuit, and supporting those great minds and doers to one day pave the road for us, that’s the overall reason I know I must push for something better at Utah State University. It’s the reason I applied as a student back in 1992 and then returned to graduate and then sought employment. I know the engine is sometimes slow, but I know leaders at the top feel much the same as I do about USU and we cannot let those leaders lose sight of the ideals they have anxiously engaged us to acquire. "

Anyway, my wife and I have been combing over this decision quite a lot. We think we will take the offer and move on and leave USU as many of our liberated friends have in the past. It will be difficult to leave something so comfotable as USU, listing our house and trying to sell it, and moving little Dennis to a brand new adventure. I know that it unnerves my wife with how long this offer and negotiations is taking. I am hoping to have something firm come Monday or Tuesday so decisions can be made. I will be journeying out there on Friday to review some real estate offerings and hope to be able to find something to accomodate our needs. We need to sell our home here as well first and given the national economy, its a bit overwhelming. A large leap of faith and trusting in things that aren't necessary under our control, but it will be interesting to see where things go. A new adventure may be just what we all need.

Dennis got to carve his first pumpkin tonight and we skyped it out to my wife's parents so they could participate. It has been a fun day and hope tomorrow will be a good day as well. Gonna run...this was a bit of a catch up but not really....

Cheers....

Just watch.....Alas, no cigar....

Too little too late.....

Bastards...that's what these risk takers to whome McCotter opposes are. This is a generation pervasive of accepting accountbilities.
