Shane's Babblings

discoverable? or retainable?

Oh the glorious human corps

So for the last few days I have been dealing with a flu/cold. At times I think about how amazing this thing called a body is and weeks like this just destroy that thought for moments at a time. Each time I think I have kicked this thing, no not done just yet. Been living on Dayquil and Tylenol to moderate happiness.

Dennis got to enjoy most of today indoors as it was a blissful wintry mix of goodness outdoors. We can use all the snow and moisture these storms have to offer. We continue to build like mad in our little valley (go America) yet forget to plan for the ever decreasing availability of natural resources. We are looking at purchasing a pre-existing home from the late 90's under a canyon. If I can do it, I'd like to go-green and install both solar panels and a windmill to create energy. It's almost amusing as I almost always have my hands in cutting-edge technologies yet want to find a way to do this as efficiently as possible. I think I no longer like being completely dependable on purely regulated agencies that have not found a way to sustainable minimize their effects on our natural resources. I firmly believe that the earth can far outlive narrow-sighted scientific predictions into the future, however I'd like to not be a leech as well.

Dennis, our little fireplug, is absorbing many new phrases and comprehending much better lately. He still is spitting out only a few clear words here and there but spurts out phrases (although not completely articulated) off and on now. He has learned he can press my wife to '3' lately in this new 1-2-3 method she has employed to spare her sanity. The method is working well but I think the little guy has learned what limits are very rapidly and learning to try and manipulate us before we can manipulate him. I look forward to all the de-programming we will have to go through as he gets to those beloved teen years.

The housing situation: We are doing a last walk through tomorrow on this new home we are interested in. Barring anything completely striking, I think we will make an offer tomorrow. Real estate is not my strong suit but I think this home could serve us well for the next 10+ years. It's situated in an area between two of our favorite locations in the outdoors and ten minutes away from the main canyon with our little hole in the wall ski resort. So that puts us 40 minutes away. Where I grew up it was a 90 minute plus journey to the glorious pow pow. We are going to try and get on the snow this next month. We'll see if Dennis enjoys the snow when we take him sledding here this next week.

New Years: I hope people are smart and sane on this traditionally horrific loss of life day. May people choose the consequences associated with their choices and may those negative choices not adversely affect those innocent from these choices too severely. I'm all for allowing anyone to be an agent unto themselves, but it has become increasingly more difficult to watch those try to not accept the accountability with such an awesome privilege. I'm not one for making resolutions as I try to make those daily to better my family and myself. Nothing big planned from this guy in the resolution department.

Made some changes to my blog layout and I may mess more with the overall layout as I glean more and more from the .css layout of the template I am using. I am interested in the changes that Opera is about to lay out on top of things that are current to this point. Iterative processes are always fun/annoying based on the perspective of how it impacts my direct usage. At times it isn't a bother at all, others it is earth shattering. I tend to believe that we are all in favor of progress but no one like to accept the change requisite with seeing progress through. I have been very grateful to a new application that I have found in the past little bit called Freemind. I think anyone looking for mind mapping software should give it a run. I turned my soon to be lawyer friend onto it over the Christmas Holiday and he was so grateful as he was looking for something like this for years. I have sat in so many meetings where I use it for note taking and have spent 15-20 mins after meetings explaining it to others and how to get it and leverage it for their own needs.

Well I seem to be rambling. Things are great and the wife is making cinnamon rolls. yum yums for me tum tums....cheers.....
