So I had to go up and enlist the help from one of our Advisors. In fact, it was rather helpful for her and I as we were able to identify the breakdown in communication and overcome it. While up there I mentioned a few of my points of view about education. I do not subscribe to the notion that everyone DESERVES to have an education. I do believe we all have the right to pursue the path of education and knowledge. I think many are not willing to do the time nor pay the price of effort and hard work required to persist until they have achieved the knowledge they sought. I am not conservative and many times rather liberal, but I believe many have shirked their accountability that is attached to the responsibility that they want so dearly. While mentioning this a few poked their head out and were like 'how can you believe that?' I retorted with 'why not?' As their meager replies were not existent, a good friend in the office asked when I was going to write a book. I fear that many in our society are not knowledgeable at all. They have been given too much, and even in sometimes meager circumstances this cripples their ability to think critically and exercise their own wisdom. Now I know that we will not all attain the same levels of understanding, but dammit they tried.
I am surrounded by many individuals at work, in life and my family at times that fail to realize that diversity in though, life and circumstance is not a reason to stand behind political correctness in FEAR of not offending someone. Frankly I am offended every day I drive. There are individuals that have no right to bear a license that would make something otherwise illegal, legal. I am offended when I go to a store and the young cashier cannot make change if technology fails before them (Went to a store, gave 10 dollar bill, the cashier typed in as receiving .10, it took him 5 minutes to correct his mistake and then relied on the total to make my change). It is a never ending saga that will not repair itself unless others are able to perceive their own need to do better, to try harder, and to lengthen their own strides. Yes, this may be in the absence of an augmented salary, title or political disposition and may just present itself in feeling better about ones self and station in life. Maybe I am and idealist, but I am grounded by reality and if it keeps going the rate it is, the efforts of political correctness will only leave the ability to be offended as the only choice. Damn that idea backfired, I can hear it now.
Anyways, that's as poignant as I need to be for one lazy Saturday afternoon.
Cheers

The perennial rite of passage has begun. It is not a right rather a rite. And many of them aren't here for themselves just yet as many of the students' parents are right there asking mindless questions that if they only exercised the intelligence they have, answers were right there.
I have heard many reasons from a student as they create excuses to try and shield them from timelines. Well, it doesn't stop with just the students. Instructors and many others are making the creativity of the students seem meager. It makes it fun. I think in the larger scale of things, our University has many things to re-assess. It is time. Technology that supports academia is beginning to offer things it never could before. I'm excited and encouraged as we can provide the best avenue to knowledge that has never been available prior to now. The only variable in this equation is whether or not the student or seeker of knowledge not only has the aptitude but the desire to sweat it out and trudge to find the knowledge they seek to acquire. Too many are sitting back and think it will come to them. Why? It's not a great method and wake up USA, the world is ready to pass us by if we aren't willing to jump back to the front and lead the pack again.
Anyways. Cheers.

SO, Liz's parents finally showed up today after an adventurous trek from Philly. It's good to have the Grandparents able to visit little Dennis.
Banner, a good and bad word. In my world there are many administrators that have no idea the effects of the data system we use. We have far too many users in our University that are not motivated nor understand the needs of data integrity nor correct and precise data entry. I struggle to comprehend that so many people want to be responsible for things but do not want to harbor the requisite accountabilities attached. There are many subscribing to a notion that 'Natural Consequences' will prevail. Without those to share or proide words of wisdom, Natural Consequences are pointless.
Anyways. Life is good and I feel that I am finding solutions to problemss that we have been trying to solve for awhile.
On goes the job.
Dennis and Liz are doing wonderful and I am thankful and happy for them both. They are very important and remain in the center of my life.
