Lately, I've been getting a feeling that people are
afraid to try Opera, that Opera is for more advanced users.
Internet surfers who use Firefox already know there's an alternative to Internet Explorer, for a safer, faster, better browsing experience. But why did they pick Firefox and not Opera?
Most common answers would probably be because:
- somebody else installed Firefox for them,
- everybody they know uses Firefox and will help them if they have any question or problem,
- simply because
everyone uses Firefox and it's cool.
Cool? To be just like everybody? Why not taking a step further to become special, using a browser
no one uses and become the cool one who introduces new browser to their friends and offers all help and support?
Fact: Opera is easier to use than FirefoxOpera provides you with everything you need out of the box.
To get "out of the box" Firefox close to the level of Opera, you'll need to find and install bunch of plugins and addons. You need to know what exactly you're looking for and where to find it. For that, I think you need to be quite an experienced user.
To squeeze out functionalities that make Opera an advanced browser, you don't need to be an expert either.
If you ever had to set up email in Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, you shouldn't have any problems setting up Opera's built in email client M2 which is also news client (RSS reader).
Using Opera's IRC client is easy and simple aswell. Same goes for BitTorrent client.
With release of Opera 10 even customization became much easier. In previous versions, you had to know couple of hacks to customize your Speed Dial, now it's all just couple clicks away.
So, what will you choose? To go with majority and use Firefox, or become special, take a step out of the crowd and say out loud:
I'm using Opera and I love my browser!
I say give Opera a go, use it as default browser for a week or two, but don't be surprised if you will miss some Opera function when you return to Firefox.
