MY app list
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 11:21:37 AM
Finally got an Android phone (running Gingerbread), so decided to make a list of apps based on *my* needs as it might slightly differ from the usual lists,... maybe not.
First batch; most essential
Opera Mobile, web browser
imo instant messenger, messenger
Yahoo! Mail, email client
ConnectBot, SSH client
Hacker's Keyboard, full keyboard
Android System Info, for info and managing stuff
Second batch; alternatives and handy apps
Twitter, official Twitter app, alternative for Peep that comes with phone
Skype, for the long distance calls
Stop Skype, essential when need to totally shut down Skype as there's no other way to do it
Astro, file manager
PDF Viewer, as there was no default PDF reader on phone
Google Translate, surprised this one didn't come with phone too
Notepad, for random notes
Photobucket Mobile, handy for Photobucket user that I am, for quick private photo uploads or backup
RunKeeper, for providing info to my stalkers
ServeStream, HTTP streaming media player, for private, unlisted streams
Third batch; apps that didn't quite serve it's purpose
Trillian, messenger (been using desktop version for many many years, but had quite some trouble connecting, decided to stick with imo)
AndChat, IRC client (just too heavy on my phone)
All listed apps are free and can be found by those exact names on Android Market.
I accept alternative suggestions in comments and if reason why I should try it will be good enough, I might give it a go.
Also, I'll be adding to the list if I come across something useful.

* Twicca: I prefer this for Twitter than the official one, YMMV
* K-9 Mail: I prefer this mail client over the Android one
* Android Notes! it gets the notes from the Opera Link API: https://github.com/operasoftware/AndroidNotes/archives/master
* FBReader: for reading when you have to wait in queues and such.
* Barcode Scanner: both barcodes and those 2D things.
Games:
* Battleflood
* Jewels
* Air Control
* Fruit Ninja

Twicca looks like it can do a lot, miiiight give it a try.
I don't need any other mail client (Yahoo is main and Gmail for those occasional few times. Not mailing enough to care.)
And notes... my Opera notes are a mess, I surely don't want them on my phone ;D
Don't need reader, no use for barcode scanner yet. And got some light.
Games: I'll pass.
