How can this be?

By chance I read the user agreement you have to say ok to have a blog with Opera:

Quote: By uploading Content to Opera’s site, you grant Opera an unrestricted, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, display, perform, modify, transmit and distribute such material in any manner, including in connection with Opera's business, and you also agree that Opera is free to use any ideas, concepts, know-how or techniques that you send Opera for any purpose.

Ohh really, well that just great.. I'm sure that in most cases I would be very happy if a picture or text I have made had been used for something Opera saw fit. I would probably be very proud. But without my say-so? What if Opera used something I had uploaded to promote something that I am against, or do not want to associated with? What then?

When Facebook tried to use a similar user agreement there were an enormous outcry from users how wrong this was. Why has this not happened in the Opera Community? I did not read the contract before saying ok to it, maybe no one else did

don't even know what to make of all of it... legalese... ugh.

The way I read it is that they can do whatever they want with the blogs and the stuff users have uploaded

studio41 18. May 2009, 06:09

yes... and down the road, indefinitely! unbelievable.

If one of your poems you have posted became a part of a book, could Opera claim that they own the rights since you posted it in your blog? According to the user agreement it would seem they could

studio41 26. May 2009, 22:51

hmm, something will come down on that, I'm sure... so you believe anything you post, will be Opera's property-- you'll have no say?

misund007 27. May 2009, 22:43

That is what it sounds like, or maybe I am being too critical

studio41 29. May 2009, 07:18

I think it's good to be cautious... but I think it sounds as if they can use anything, but do not own the rights to it...

perhaps post the exact words that concern you... have you written Opera?

misund007 29. May 2009, 21:55

that is true. But if they made some money from your material, should they not share?

studio41 30. May 2009, 05:17

would be fine by me! yes, share!

It all part of the community spirit
