Gaelic phrases about love

,

Tomorrow is a bank holiday and I have taken Friday off as well, So long weekend here I come :D

Here in Ireland all road-signs are written in Gaelic as well as in English. Not many Irish speak Gaelic in their day to day life, but they still are learning it in school and is a part of their culture. I have tried to learned a little Gaelic, but I find it a bit difficult.

Here are some phrases in Gaelic about love:

PHRASE..........bean mo chroi
PRONOUNCED......bann muh kree
MEANING.........Woman of my heart

PHRASE..........Ta tu go halainn
PRONOUNCED......taw two guh haul-inn
MEANING.........you are beautiful

PHRASE..........An bposfaidh tu me?
PRONOUNCED......on boes-igg two may
MEANING.........Will you marry me?

PHRASE..........Tá grá agam duit!
PRONOUNCED......taw graw agg/um dwit
MEANING.........I love you!

PHRASE..........Mo mhíle grá
PRONOUNCED......muh veal/ah graw
MEANING.........My thousand loves

Seems to me that I´m lucky not having to learn that language.

I see absolutely nothing I recognize.

misund007 31. May 2006, 07:00

Hi Luke. I can imagen that. It does not sound like any other language, but I does remind me of the way I have been told the Vikings spoke - Norrønt. Tanks for commenting

Anonymous writes:

technically "i love you" is much simpler than the phrase you had.
You could simply write "Gra'im Thu"
It has a simpler meaning.

Thanks for the comment Anonymous

I'll try to remember that, thanks
