Thumbnails in Opera 9 Technology Preview 2

, , , ,

Opera 9 Technology Preview 2 adds thumbnails a couple of places. The thumbnail support is work-in-progress and will see improvements. However, we decided to give our users a sneak peak of things to come in future releases.

If you move the mouse cursor over a tab with a loaded page you will now see a thumbnail of that page. This feature is currently enabled by default, but can be disabled in opera:config.

When cycling tabs wth Ctrl+Tab you can also see a thumbnail of the page. This feature is currently disabled by default, but can be enabled in opera:config.

Only webpages will currently have thumbnails.

The thumbnail feature does not work on my windows 98 machine. Is this by design, a bug or just possibly an error on my machine.

Just enable it, as said above.

Hey I **LOVE** the ad-blocking. Firefox`s Ad-Block is a baby-toy... :-)

As mentioned. Thumbnails enabled in both cases.
However, they dont work for me in Opera9Beta on a WindowsME system. All i get is black thumbnails when using Ctrl-Tab. Nothing at all with tool tips. Also widgets dont display properly ...

Yes, it's a known problem that thumbnails don't work on Win9x/ME systems.

Very impressive thumbnails feature, Petter.

I'm noticing with tp2 on Mac OS X 10.4.4 that invoking <cntl-tab>, cycling through thumbnails and releasing back to *same tab*, this then disables the tab cycling.

Clicking on different tab re-activates thumbnail cycling and works as advertised...not sure if this is a known issue...?

Cheers,
Kamalesh

The cycle window will close when you release the keys, that is be design. Do you mean something else? Not entirely certain if you understood the question correctly.

At some point can skinning the cycle pages dialog be made possible? The white window with no border blends in with the page behind it. Its a cosmetic thing purely. But still would be nice if it inherited the [Window] spec in a skin.

Thumbnails for cycling pages is the best! I love it.

Regards,
Marc

They can be skinned already and the thumbnails can be skinned separately. Search for "Cycler" in the skin.ini file that's included with Opera. Not much work has been done to make on the look yet, though.

It would be nice if we could change the delay in which the popup display when you hover your mouse over somewhere in opera:config. Its a GREAT FEATURE btw.. thanks alot

I'm using Opera 9.00 beta on Win XP home, and I'm loving it.

However, I have seen thumbnails on my tabs only once or twice, and always by accident!! Whenever I hover nothing happens except the highlight/colour change of the tab under the cursor. Have I misunderstood something??

Petter Nilsenmitchman2 Friday, August 4, 2006 1:14:34 PM

caius69: Make sure you have tooltips enabled.

caius69 Thursday, August 31, 2006 10:07:01 PM

Now using Opera 9.01, "Use Thumbnails in Tab Tooltips" is checked but I still don't get the thumbnails.

If I check "Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle" they certainly appear with Ctrl+Tab.

Any ideas?
