"Silent" update of Opera Mini 5

Today we released a "silent" update of Opera Mini 5 for Java and BlackBerry. Please download from http://m.opera.com

This update now makes Opera Mini 5 available in 32 new languages:

Albanian
Amharic
Armenian
Assamese
Azerbaijani
Basque
Bengala
Bosnian
Gujarati
Hausa
Igbo
Kannada
Kashmiri
Kazakh
Kirghiz
Khmer
Lao
Lingala
Marathi
Mongolian
Oriya
Pashto
Sesotho
Sinhala
Swahili
Tajik
Telugu
Turkmen
Uzbek
Xhosa
Yoruba
Zulu

Other notable bug fixes included in this update:
  • RSS feed links should now appear at the top of pages again.
  • RTL (Right To Left) languages should now display properly on phones with supported fonts.
  • Problems with daylight savings time have been fixed.
  • Some problems with keypad text input have been fixed.

om5 java goes blank when trying to connect to the internet on my O2 xda stellar. i prefer the java apps to the windows media platform because of better page rendering speed. kindly fix this prob in d next update.

It looks like this corrects the Opera Link bug also. Now I can activate Opera Link and have my search engines correctly synchronized and also now I can manually type web addresses after enabling Opera Link.

Looks like the bug that stops you from adding/modifying search engines in Full-Screen Edit is still there. But anyways, thanks for the update, Opera Mini team! =D

There was a small update for Opera Mini on the Iphone about a week ago, you can check in itunes or on the app store on the phone

Ive been having this problen with my Opera Mini 5 and 4 lately, whenever i post a reply into any threads on forums, i get redirected to a white / blank page. I hope this problem gets fixed. ^^

Opera pls modify the search box so that i can add my own search engine instead of always using google or wikipedia. Also i should be able to modify my speed dial. Also do something about the memory usage. I use nokia 3120 classic. My opera always crashes with a message on low memory. Also the speed of opening a new page is very slow as compared with 4.2 which is fast.

You can use Opera link to snyc custom searches and same with the speeddial

Try to long press on any search field you see on Web. You should get option to add a custom search. 'Long press' means you move the cursor/pointer over search field, then press and hold down for few seconds to open context menu.

This version still thinks I'm on a touchscreen. I'm using an iPAQ 510 (keypad only) I tried the winmo beta version but it only types numbers, this make both versions unusable for me. Opera mobile works fine but is incredible slow and memory consuming compared to mini, even with turbo mode turned on.

A "silent" update is just "patched" update of the current release. To put it another way:
Buggy Opera Mini 5 final + silent update = Fixed Opera Mini 5 final

Silent updates are different from regular updates. A regular update to Opera Mini 5 would either Mini 5.1 or it's successor, Mini 6. But either of those are still a ways off from happening.

This is *major* news. Why has this been released as a silent update? Well its major for me because the form submission issue has finally been fixed! This means I can now log in to websites and participate in discussions with full confidence!

Still waiting for the WinMo version to catchup though..

Glad of the update but there's a bug with Opera M5 folding lists of items into [+] in mobile view: e.g. viewing my tags on delicious.com clicking [+] unpacks only the first 4 items - there are many more I can only see by switching to desktop view...

Is it for Blackberry only? For I do not see a new version - my mobile prompts if I want to replace v 5.00(32) with 5.00(32). The post says for *Java* and Blackberry, though.

No, its applicable for most Java capable phones. It updates fine on my Windows Mobile - when I downloaded it the JVM asked me if its OK to update from the old version. Perhaps you're already using the new version?

In OM -> Settings -> Help -> About, check the version number. Mine says 5.0.19693

Have you tried putting cursor over picture/image and long press on ok button . This brings up option of saving,on my phone anyway. Using Sony Ericsson W715
