By Marian Hmarianh. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 7:00:25 AM
What's new in Opera Mini 5.1 for Android?
- 96 languages are now supported in the user interface.
- Improved page layout on high-resolution screens.
- Improved kinetic scrolling.
- Opera Mini can now be set as the default browser.
- Automatically save browsing sessions if Opera Mini is killed by the system while in the background. Your session is restored if Opera is re-opened within 60 minutes.
- Full-screen now uses the whole screen.
Download Opera Mini directly to your Android phone for free from the Android Market, or at m.opera.com. For more information, visit http://www.opera.com/mobile/.
As always, we welcome your feedback here in our forum, and please report any bugs in our bug report wizard. Thanks!
Regards,
The Opera Mini team

great, thanks a lot for this, this will make me use Opera on my mobile much more often, curiously at a time where 10.6 scared me away from it on desktop systems.

One question, though - why on Earth does opera Link still not sync bookmarks?

I really wish Opera develops compiled/native versions of Mini for all smartphone platforms because this would greatly improve the user experience of a sizable and important segment of Opera's userbase. There are things like setting Mini as the default browser(as is now possible with this version for android), or access the Internet without annoying Java popups, which isn't possible if the app isn't native. I hope they do a version for Symbian, 'cos the iPhone, winMo, and now android, are already covered.
Before all the fanboys tell me Opera's already got a native version here, I'm talking about Opera MINI, not Opera Mobile.

Why is there no option to change the User Agent so I don't get these ultra ugly mobile "optimized" pages? Why can't I click on anything without zooming in first?

So what's up with the endless prompt?
Secondly, I prefer the font sizes of the beta (already mentioned in a previous comment). Large is really huge and medium is too small.

Also, Opera Mini needs to work on slower phones, so multiple zoom levels are completely unreasonable to expect there.

I think Mini for smartphones can easily handle relayouting without contacting server. I hope this feature will be implemented in future releases. This matters, because in smart-phone world we have a lot of different screen sizes and physical resolutions. It is much easier to live with two zoom levels in feature phone world, because Opera Mini is simply the only way to get to the web and resolutions does not differ so much too.

my biggest issue is the lack of a share link. love the long press feaure, could you add share page on long press context results.
or add copy link address on long press on a link. ala chrome desktop.
finally I want to add that I love the mouse hand for navigating.
thanks again for your hard work.

Where is the default Saved Pages directory for Opera Mini 5.1 ( HTC Desire )?
Can't find it anywhere.
No, I don't have as Advanced Menu option to set/change the directory.
