Opera Mobile 11.1 silent update 1 for Android

,

Today we released silent update 1 for Opera Mobile 11.1 for Android. Download silent update 1 direct to your Android device from m.opera.com, or get the update in the Android Market.

What is a silent update?
A newer version of Opera Mobile 11.1 which replaces the launch version of Opera Mobile 11.1

Why did we release a silent update?
Opera Mobile 11.1 was freezing at startup on certain Android devices

Shortly after the launch of Opera Mobile 11.1 for Android we started receiving reports Opera was freezing at startup. We traced the startup freeze to devices with non-standards fonts. Most effected devices were the HTC HD2, and LG P990 Optimus 2x. The developers also identified and fixed another freeze on start-up bug that was effecting devices with Hardware keyboards such as the Motorola Milestone, and the HTC Desire Z.

Change log for Opera Mobile 11.1 silent update 1
  • Fixed force close issues related to non-standard fonts in the system
  • Fixed force close issues when using hardware keyboards
  • Fixed problems with text vanishing from text fields after editing

As always send us your feedback in the Android market, or head over to the Opera Mobile for Android forum to discuss.

Happy browsing,
The Opera Mobile team

"Fixed problems with text vanishing from text fields after editing"

That was my only real problem...

Will people who downloaded the first 11.1 version get a notification of the Android Market about this update?

Pawelpawelu Friday, July 8, 2011 12:22:11 PM

Yes you should get a notification - at least when you open Android Market app and go to "My apps" section.

Ah, nice. Thanks!

=( opera mobile still keeps closing and losing tabs from time to time on my xperia mini pro when left in the background. Very annoying. Anything I can do to help debug this?

Maybe you should talk to your colleagues in the desktop team, because they seem to know how to use version numbers.

Releasing a new version with the same version number as an older version is just silly. It causes unneeded confusion, and makes the release look unplanned and amateurish.

I just use plain old Internet Explorer. I've tried Opera, Piscel Browser, AvantGo's intergrated browser, and Mozilla's mobile browser, but they're too slow for me..

Do you guys know about the mobile version of YouTube not containing the video and thus requiring the YT-app to be installed?
Webkit browsers get a different page than Opera Mobile on m.youtube.com. The Opera version has uglier style and doesn't contain an embedded video, only a vnd.youtube:... link that's handled by the YT-app. If that one isn't installed you just get an error message. Webkit version contains the embedded video and actually does work in Opera (if you just convince the server you're actually Webkit).
You guys should probably get in contact with YT to get their browser sniffing fixed.

It isn't Flash, there's no Flash in iOS. YouTiube gives HTLM5 video to Mobile Safari which Opera Mini doesn't supports, only Opera Mobile.

Uhm, this is the Opera Mobile blog and this blog post is about Android...

Oops, right... Then Opera needs to check it.

two more things, on xperia mini pro, opera auto close after a certain number of open tabs (runs out of free memory?)
also, the select copy is unusable as it screws up trying to open a link in a new tab all the time(nooo i don't want to bloody select a word in the link description).... opera mini is still a lot more usable vs opera mobile.

But some people want, and sometimes you might want and sometimes don't...

most like not...
look, they can make a pop up menu switch option or something (select link text/open link). and that would be a lot less annoying since we do a lot more opening than selecting

i'd really appreciate it if opera didn't keep closing and losing all the open tabs too sad either in bg or when too many are open (3-8ish)

I wish I could test Opera Mobile to know what you're talking about... Test the new text selection... I haven't a smartphone and PC Mobile Emulator wasn't updated yet....

Nice Opera 4.1

Stan Gtrep Saturday, August 6, 2011 3:55:05 AM

Silly question, but isn't there supposed to be a different UI for tablets? On my Asus Transformer it looks exactly the same as on my Android phone. I have noticed that Transformer isn't listed among tested devices.

Also, are there any beta builds to play around?
