Opera Mobile 11.5 for Android: Now with Data Usage
By Phillipkbeeme. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 12:07:15 PM
Opera Mobile 11.5 will now show you exactly how much data you have spent and saved using the two products and, in turn, the money and time you save.
A dedicated page, easily accessible from the help menu inside the Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers, keeps count of how much data you are spending and saving in total, or for a specific timeframe like a trip abroad with roaming.
The number of megabytes saved while using the Opera Mobile browsers can directly translate into money saved if you are roaming or on a pay-as-you-go plan for data traffic.
For people on capped data plans, this is a handy feature to make sure you don't max out reaching those slow, punishing network speeds you might encounter after using up your allowance.
So what's new?

The Web is what I do:
We also launched Opera Mini 6.5 for Android today Opera Mobile is a full browser with client-side support for JavaScript, HTML5, Flash (Android only) and more. In Opera Mini, the browser engine is running on Opera's servers. Web pages are transcoded and compressed up to 90% before being downloaded to the device, making Opera Mini lightning fast and also much cheaper if you are paying per megabyte.
As always Happy Browsing,
The Opera Mobile team

It'd be great if icon created on the homescreen used the site's apple-touch-icon if available (with a red O superimposed on the bottom right corner).
A speeddial widget would also be sweet!

Would be nice if OMobile would be a little less reactive for scrolling left/right while scrolling up/down and up/down while scrolling left/right. A little bit like it would be on rails. Page reading would be easier with it, because you dont scroll out of your reading position too easy when scrolling not exactly straight.

Been meaning to ask this question for over a year now.

I can sympathise with you on this; though mostly I'd prefer new pages open in background NEXT to their parent. Long story short, Opera changed new tabs from foreground to background and most people like it that way. This could probably be changed if the options were in opera:config, but to my knowledge they are not.
I need to extensively test this new build. I have had the problems with cookies and an issue with Mobile crashing after Link synchronised my bookmarks. It will be nice if they are fixed. (alternatively, Link could have two bookmark options: "share bookmarks with Mini" and "download all bookmarks")

Opera Devs: this would be HIGHLY appreciated if it were an opera:config option. I like to open new tabs (so I don't lose my place in the original document) and having them open in the background is somewhat annoying.
Thanks!

Other than that, I have had good luck with other web sites.

....seems more difficult to long-press a URL without zooming way in.

Yes, very buggy. I think the font color is set to white, because you can click on links when you find them.
Pity there is no confirmation for this from an Opera staff member.
Did you file a bug for this?

+1 And why having one or another depending on a configuration if there's enough room for having both "Open link in New Tab" AND "Open link in Background Tab" available in the context menu?johannesth00ht # Wednesday, October 26, 2011 6:06:00 PM
