Opera Mini 5 beta 2 is ready for download!

Finally, Opera Mini 5 beta 2 is here!

Since the release of Opera Mini 5 beta 1, we've been working hard to implement new, exciting features, and fix a lot of bugs. Many of those bugs were reported by you, our users, and we thank you for that.

To download, go to m.opera.com/next, but please note that phone support for the new version may vary. It has, however, improved quite a bit from Opera Mini 5 beta 1.

Key new features:
  • Download manager
  • Opera Link, to keep Opera Mini synchronized
  • Progressive loading
  • And of course a lot of bug fixes

What is progressive loading?
Progressive loading means that pages you load are sent to your device in 'chunks'. Previously in Opera Mini, your page would be displayed once the entire page has reached your device. However, now your browsing experience will be faster and better, just like on your desktop! Please note that progressive loading only works using the socket protocol. Your connection will default to socket if possible.

I like but you might want to not change the names of items in the Settings screen when there is no need. Such as calling "Inline editing" "Fullscreen edit".

And there are not russian/cyrillic support in text fields ( i'm know about "inline editing")...

Suggestion: hide screen keyboard, when there is hardware keyboard available (or make an option to hide it).

Bug: SE p1i wheel doesn't work on "main menu" screen and tabs screen. Also it works incorrectly on Speed Dial screen.

At a quick glance I only miss feeds

EDIT: It would be nice if shortcuts for bookmarks was the same in 4.2 and 5, dont see the point of changing them...

The point is that Opera clipboard and phone clipboard are NOT the same. You need to transfer! Since my forum post I found an easier way.

The "very small" font needs a smaller space between lines, and its "!" fixed (looks like an "I" atm).

The speeddial thumbnails look very wrong, too.

OK, sounds gr8... however I think I need to "hurry up and slow down" before downloading: My operaMini5beta1 has a few MANUAL bookmarks whereas my co-existent operaMini4 has the main LINKED bookmarks, SO:

If I download operaMini5beta2 on top of existing beta1, and activate Link/sync, will it:

A) assume the existing beta1 bookmarks should overwrite all of the opera4 main currently LINKED bookmarks (BAD)?

B) understand that the currently LINKED bookmarks (on my operaMini4) should take precedence and overwrite the few manual operaMini5beta1 bookmarks? (LOGICAL and OK)? or

C) [best of all!!!]: Include all LINKED bookmarks and OPTIONALLY ADD TO THEM the few operaMini5beta1 bookmarks I had manually added due to the until-now-lack of OperaLink on operaMini5beta1

?

Hmm I delited Mini 5 B1 and all Mini 4.2 bookmarks were added to B2. As B1 is not linked it will not be affected and will not affect other versions!

I dont work for OM or anything like that but according to the hype reviews of the Android, I suggest you try to download OM10 for smart phone and see if that works for you, then share your feedback.

External links with anchors don't bring you to the anchor spots on external pages. External links with anchors were working in OM 4.2. I use Sony Ericsson w580i.

Internal links with anchors still work in OM 5 beta 1 and 2.

Regarding Link, desktop Opera doesn't support folders in the Opera Mini root directory.

Excelent work!

Just a suggestion - as we can now have up to 25 speed dials on desctop, whu not make the same on mini? Just simple scroll..

Another suggestions - trumbnails for speed dial are just ugly (small top left corner of site - come on, thats not only unhelpful but plain sonfusing cos sometimes u have to press on it to see what site it is). Im sure there could be work around for it - for example load much smaller pics (zoomed out).

Oh, and yeah - even though I dont use russian (but its installed) I still cant swith from numeric to alphabetic keyboards. N5800 v31.

Regarding Speed dial tumbs! I think it works well with top left corner. You could think it was Straightforward to use page icon say favicon, but would not work for sites where you have severel shortcuts! like I have for Opera.

Using OM 5 beta 1 or 2, enter feed:list in the URL box to bring up the feed page from Opera Mini 4.2. Bookmark the feed page or assign it to a speed dial for now.

There is an option to download signed a signed version for 5 b2. Just follow the 'other versions' links and scroll down.

Note I could only seem to find the link when using my phone - using your desktop browser doesn't seem to let you get to the link.

Beta 2 has a frightening http request header named "extra http headers" and the value displayed is "password:xxxxxxxx\nuser:yyyyyyyy" where "xxxxxxxx" is your Opera Link password and "yyyyyyyy" the username.

You could see it by visiting "debug:" in Opera Mini and looking at the second last line.

Would someone from the Mini team please fix this immediately!

I haven't been able to log in my usual sites on OM5 Beta2 it wont allow me to put in my p/w, I'm using Samsung Inctinct. By the way I can no longer watch YouTube on OM4.2 but works fine on OM5 Beta2.
