Why didn't we release a final version of 9.5 before skipping to 9.7?

, ,

Our core department has released a new version of Opera Presto which contained support for Opera Turbo, more advanced web standards, Gears and several other improvements. We wanted to make this available to our users as soon as possible, and chose to upgrade the core version in Opera Mobile. Updating the browser core is a big step forward for us, and it felt natural to change the version number.

We have to upgrade to a new browser core as often as possible. Several products using a wide range of browser core versions introduces a lot of overhead (several version of core has to be maintained and worked on at the same time), so we try to use the most current stable core version at all times.

With regards to Symbian S60, I can only tell you that we're working on it.. but I'll also add that it's really awesome, and we can't wait to let you guys play with it cool

That's not the point.
When they were in date/ and still are !! Anything you make should work properly.
Especially in the final.

This is a mobile world future:
opera/4.2 cant display a web page to the max. FireFox_Mobile Can_ on ver:.09 and bitstream BOLT BY firefox can render pages faster and has many built in feature's, for advanced user's. View this site with FireFox_MOBILE - ON A CELL PHONE AND YOU WILL SEE HOW BEAUTIFUL THE CSS IS.. In som blogs.. And in general.. It draws out every Os run_
if ver: .09 not even 1 is doing this with firefox, what a great power /lets say a
ver:3 is... I am a proud member of Opera Comunnity, but if i dont report this, then Opera will get whipped.
FireFox is more than a browser, and has a bunch of add ons coming on in a hour.
Once you zoom in with opera 4.2 / you just a 1940 rock star. Same as a wap browser. FireFOX - DONT WORK THAT WAY!! Your mobile is a pc- thats all. . If u want to know more search my blog, im not advertising it

remember these browser's have certain powers that other's dont have. Opera has a power that i dont like -

yes

i
love
it

geez writes: @antwap Are you drunk or something? Your comment doesn't even begin to make sense. Mobile Firefox isn't even remotely close to completion, and is big, bloated, slow, and memory-hungry. Bolt is made by Bitstream, not Mozilla, and is a stripped down browser like Opera Mini. If you are comparing Firefox to Bolt and Opera Mini, you are a complete idiot. Firefox is a full browser, like Opera Mobile. Opera Mini and Bolt aren't. I still don't understand what you are trying to say. You are seemingly insane with your incoherent ramblings.

OH MAN .. Be careful what you say.. Opera lets you run FireFox and Windows Explorer in Opera browser# you can switch instantly and open all browser's in different tabs.

I think you just read that FireFox mobile is clumsy!! And forgot what i am saying, it is their first version.

geez writes: @antwap Again you aren't making sense. How about trying to keep your comments BRIEF and UNDERSTANDABLE without a lot of useless noise? Opera doesn't "run other browsers" inside Opera. I KNOW that Firefox is bloated and memory hungry. They couldn't even get it to run on a high-end Windows Mobile phone, and it's dead slow on a fast Linux device. Firefox shows CSS? WOW, "amazing". Opera has been showing CSS for years. Long before Firefox even existed.

geez writes: @antwap AGAIN you aren't making sense. What's with the insane comments? There is a generic feature in Opera to open something in whatever the system reports is able to handle it. It isn't opened INSIDE Opera, it's opened in that application. Why the hell would Opera love it if I downloaded Firefox? Are you drunk?

am wondering if there is a release date of 9.7

RoyGarion Sunday, April 26, 2009 6:02:32 PM

For what it's worth I'll repeat what I suggested in the 9.7 blog:

With regsrd to the release date - at a recent trade show Opera (in conversation with CNET) said that soon in this case means May.

An educated guess would suggest May 17 (Norwegian National Day.)

Opera mini can acess the full web, but cant display certain web page's in full web view.
I have tested it on all phone's.

Especially when such phones like Samsung Omnia HD or Nokia N97 are just around the corner. Big touch screen with very poor default browser. Opera, let us - Symbian S60v5 users - use Your browser please. You'll earn money on us, but release the product.

linuxbastler Friday, June 5, 2009 9:32:45 PM

this all sounds promising. I just wish you'd do a little less promising and a little more releasing.

don't get me wrong here, I know writing software is hard work and something always fails to compile correctly. But look at the history! You've skipped over a major and a minor version already since the last stable release (you did not fail to announce their imminent release however), and I bought 3 new phones since I last got a chance to pay for a stable opera license.

I really do like opera, to me it always was and still is just the finest browser out there regardless of platform, but every time I read "coming soon" in your blog it smells a little more like yet another candidate for the vaporware award...

Jared G. Pinayaojared1990 Monday, June 8, 2009 4:00:02 AM

I hope this opera will be also available for series s60 version 2.

Anthony John Lourensantwap Sunday, June 14, 2009 6:46:57 AM

Safest way for all.. On pc .. Laptop ect.. Ensure.. Microsoft is your default browser.. ie Windows 8 and Google your default search engine.. RUN OPERA... NOW AND THEN RIGHT CLICK AND RUN IE8 OR 7.. OR FIREFOX.....OPERA IS THE BEST ON MOBILES....

DHONAmarvfali Thursday, June 18, 2009 10:15:43 AM

opera turbo doesn't work like magic on my HTC touch... The bad thing is, it doesn't work like the previous 9.5 beta. what a shame... hope to see a better version with all the features we've got in 9.5 beta.

Gaurav Joseph0xdeadbeef Saturday, August 8, 2009 10:04:59 AM

Atleast show us a screenshot of the new opera mobile for s60 devices . .
