Happy Birthday Internet

a poem by Elly

Happy Birthday Internet
also know as the World Wide Web
being stuck in your information trap
has become with many where it is "at"
all on-the-spot info in your coffers
along side many business offers
photos, music, videos, blogs and tweet
I can go around the world not using my feet
even into space I can venture
on universal, worldly, or philosophical adventure
somewhere someone is always on
I can chat all night through dawn
people connected through the air and wires
sharing all our innermost desires
looking, reading, listening to all
through my monitor, having a ball
all the new ifriends I have met
all thanks to you, dear Internet!

Factoids

, , , ...

Attila the Hun is thought to have been a dwarf!!!! (Napoleon was short, too!)

George Washington grew marijuanna in his garden!!!! (All that he did with it is not verified.)

St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is not Irish!!! (Yeah, he was a slave.)

Ancient drinkers warded off the devil by clinking their cups!!! (Clink)

In some parts of Malaya, women keep harems of men!!! (No misspelling.) (One is enough for me.)

Admiral Lord Nelson was less than 1.6 meters tall!!! (Sounds pretty short, how much is that in feet?) (Answer: 5.2 1/2 feet)

Winston Churchill's mom was part red Indian!!! (That is what it says "red Indian", must be American Indian?)

Julius Caesar wore a laurel wreath to cover up his onset of baldness!!! (Declared himself a God but couldn't stop his hair loss. lol)

Ancient Roman men swore oaths by putting their hands on their testicles; from hence we get the term (here it comes) "TESTIMONY!!!" lol

Nuns' habits' headresses cover up their ears because it is believed that the Virgin Mary became pregnant through her ear!!! (Can you imagine! Hey, don't touch my ears!) lol

For a (1904-1906) time there was a distress call "CQD" meaning "seek you" D for "Danger"; this was replaced in 1906 by "SOS" and put into effect all over the world by 1909. Yes, the replacement is SOS. (I like SOS much better, "Save Our Ship" or, as Wiki says "In popular usage, SOS became associated with phrases such as "Save Our Seamen", "Save our Ship", "Survivors On Shore" or "Save Our Souls". These were a later development, most likely used to help remember the correct letters (something known as a backronym).)It is actually Morse Code "three dits, three dahs, three dits".

On that note: Three whistles,or three waves are international symbols of distress. Three fires, too.

ONE NEW ONE: IPODS get HEAVIER when you put music in them -- also the weight depends on which kind of music you input into them. (Research continues and company has to put "weight may vary" on labels! lol-- IS TRUE!!!)

Cinnamon Revelry

, , , ...

I like chewing Big Red
it is a cinnamon gum
this happiness makes me hum
making too much noise for my Ted.

Ted is my hubby
he is mostly sweet
he makes me complete
we are happy and chubby,

Here I am chewing away
typing on my compy
now the poem is almost fini
my breath smells like a bouquet.

Now I think of a song
Cinnamon,let me in
and chewing gum is not a sin
a tastey snack cannot be wrong

A earworm now is in my head
cinnamon spinning musical notes
helping sow my wild oats
dancing and prancing on my bed.

What a strange sight to see
a happily dancing Elly
with my talented jelly-belly
I'll make you laugh, I guarantee!

Would I be a Penguin?

Would I be a Penguin?
a poem by Elly

If I had wings would I fly,
or would I be like a penguin,
as it is I can only wish and sigh,
looking up at the fine, big sky
let my imagination give it a try
even when I go in.

In my mind, I fly so high
the world below is tiny
then again, if I were like a penguin
the sea is what I would fly in
just thinking about it makes me grin
water and ice sparkling and shiny.

Peace

, , , ...

After learning so many horrifying things. I find peace simply. Watching my fish swimming, watching my son's turtles and fish swimming.

The fish dance. The turtles and fish chase each other and bob up when I come near.

Peace, happiness, just from a very unsophisticated, natural thing.

I Am Just Horrified By This

Many Palestinians have died because they cannot get to hospitals!
Their homes get demolished! Look at this![URL= http://www.ifamericansknew.org/stats/homes.html#stats]HOMES DEMOLISHED! This info is from a group that wants peace in the area.

OMG!

I love EMERSON Factoid

Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to the end, requires some of the same courage which a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men to win them.

So disappointed

, , , ...

The Israelis just recently threw out people from a different ethnic/religion from their homes, even though they lived there peacefully for over 50 years. The country did this over UN and world objections.

This is the "HOLY land"? They put the people out and put the people's belongings into garbage cans or just on the street.

Those kinds of actions happen in governments where State and Religion are the same! Ancient tactics which people think are okay because it is in their "HOLY Book", ethnicide by making people homeless!!!!

Why does this bother me? It shows that the State of Israel is firmly being guided by racists! How can the rest of the Jewish Nation support this? Do they realize this? Do they care, or is it just great to have such a nice place to go on vacation and have groups bring the Jewish youth there for free and to work in Kibbutz if they want or just sightsee? How can they turn a blind eye?

In an environment where most Jewish people in the world aren't really temple-goers and believe that supporting their religion is done by donating money to help the State of Israel, where really the Jewish religion which has a foundation of making people thinkers, having people treat others nicely, the religious STATE of Israel does this?

No money for the evicted people, no new home? If the State is going to move someone, they should be given comparable land and house and/or money!

What is next? Are all other religious sites there going to soon be off limits? Are the religious groups who run such sites going to be kicked out, too? Are these ancient institutions going to be razed so the Jerusalem is totally Jewish for the Jewish? I fear that the next steps will be this.

I join the world in condemning the State of Israel for atrocities against the Palestinians and all other nonJewish peoples living in Israel.

The Bible, Torah, Koran are full of allegories! Stories! Meant to teach lessons to people.

What happened to the great teachers who taught the TRUTH? What happened to the TRUTH?

I find this very ironic in that most of Israel is now in the possession of people from Eastern Europe who make sure to always tell anyone who will listen how they were dispossed of their homes and kicked out of countries and treated absymally -- then these people who KNOW how it feels and KNOW the injustice of such actions turn around and do it to others because it is their country and they can!

Gosh, I thank my parents that I live in the USA where government and religion are totally separate!!
Sure it says "In God We Trust" on the money and put "Nation Under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance, but those were put in to show we are anticommunist and antiCold War (done during those time periods). These two phrases are beliefs of most of the people of the USA, but not all, and that is the only thing that is attached to a kind of government thingee. Some people have it on license plates -- but nowadays, you can get a license plate to show your support for almost everything, causes, institutions, or birds and animals that you like or even certain sceneries (depends on your State). Doesn't effect policy, doesn't effect taxes, doesn't effect any institutions or people or have to be a belief of anyone.

Seems to me that governments that are religious governments should behave a lot better than any other governments, and would too if they followed the actual tenets.

What is that Jewish word for kindnesses that people make a very big deal at Bar and Bat Mitzahs?
