Happy Birthday Internet

a poem by Elly

Happy Birthday Internet
also know as the World Wide Web
being stuck in your information trap
has become with many where it is "at"
all on-the-spot info in your coffers
along side many business offers
photos, music, videos, blogs and tweet
I can go around the world not using my feet
even into space I can venture
on universal, worldly, or philosophical adventure
somewhere someone is always on
I can chat all night through dawn
people connected through the air and wires
sharing all our innermost desires
looking, reading, listening to all
through my monitor, having a ball
all the new ifriends I have met
all thanks to you, dear Internet!

Karl! Straight As or A+s in all of his classes except one, and his grades brought way down because of lack of homework completion. Some teachers give homework to him every single night! I ask him every day afterschool, the evening, when he goes to bed, when he wakes up in the morning, before he departs for school about completing his homework, is it done, does he have it packed, is it with him, does he remember who to give it to, is it, in itself all done, does he want me to look it over, can I check his spelling. I check a thing called Parent Connect, can't make heads of tails of it. It lists homework, yes, but no due dates, no notice of when it was assigned. GRRRRRRRRRR! At least one teacher has a website that is current and shows what is what.

Yesterday was my birthday. My parents and sibs threw me a party! How nice!!!!! So, it was them, and Chris brought her hubbie, Tom. Karl and my hubbie were there. It was really nice being just with them with no other spouses or kids. It was cozy and weird being just us. They had a nice bunch of food and a creme brulle cheesecake! My brother, Karl, had so many funny stories about what happens in the building where he works and his crazy, funny, neighbor. I received some neat birthday cards and gifts.

Oh, and my sister, NOW she tells me that both her son and daughter had the same homework problem that Karl has. (Oh, confused? See, my dad, brother, and son are all named Karl. Am now talking about my 15-year-old student.) When her daughter, Rachel, was growing up, however, it was all, "Rachel is so smart. Straight A's. Such a marvelous student." I found out about her problem with Mikey because one day I was over there and she complaining about it to him and told me, too. See what I have to live through????? Seems that now people just live tellng half-truths, even to relatives! Outright bragging, too-- well, I already got into that, so I won't go into it again; but how can they brag when they are lying about what they are bragging about????
