I Live In the New ICE AGE

, , , ...

Ice, ice everywhere! Thick ice! Cold, slippery ice! In all my life, I have never seen the world like this. Amazing and scarey! Sometimes the sky thunders and lightnings! Sometimes, snow, hail, rain, and fog in combinations and/or separately are pelting down on us.

The landscape is at times not even evident for you can't see through the fog and/or snow swirling about.

Salt, can't find it anywhere!

Now Is The Time of Clouds -- a poem by Eliane

, , , ...

Now Is The Time of Clouds

The sky is covered in blankets
of various shades of greys
blocking much of the sun's rays

Now is the Time of Clouds

Drifting, large and small of one thought
snow is on their minds
for our winter's climes

Now is The Time of Clouds

Broken-hearted lovers lament
the mirror of their souls' discontent
in the sky's lack of firmament

Now Is The Time of Clouds

Well It Finally Happened!

Whiteness turns to mud
solid to mush
snow to rain
the bleakness
where is my Sol?

I Finally got something Different to Write About

, , , ...

Hello, my blog viewers and pleasant i-friends.

I had an adventure this weekend with Teddy, my hubby (husband) and Karl (my son). Short version: Went to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to a Bar Mitzvah (hope that is spelled correctly).

Long Version:

Leaves, Mystery, Birds, Traffic, and Planes

, , , ...

All the leaves are gone but the skies are still blue, when the clouds aren't there! p:

Nothing much happening, got a new nickname, though! Maybe I will tell you someday.

It is getting colder. A few flocks of those little black birds on newly-mowed lawns and the ever-present ducks in the drainage ditches are about. Squirrels are busy doing their thing.

Traffic is getting horendous here in town since a main thoroughfare has connected two major highways. The parking lots at the malls are now like used-car lots.

Yesterday I was watching a show about personal air vehicles and how NASA actually formulated air-lanes for personal air vehicles. Could you image flying to work or visit? These small crafts take off and land like helicopters. There was one made in Texas that would never crash because they made it in such a manner that if the airplane-style rotors stopped, the helicopter-style rotors would just spin you down safely to land. I liked that one. It had both style of rotors and was made with a honeycombed paper and lacqeur inside coated with a plastic resin, which when complete gave the body a very light weight but strength far superior to steel!

Oh, wish I had big bucks! If I did, my kid's college would be paid off, then my house, then my bills, then I would buy this small two-seater aircraft! Well, maybe the four-seater... Gosh, sometimes it is hard to have a family of five. The seating arrangements in things come in two, four, six, eight. Oh, well...

Happy Halloween

, , , ...

The one year that none of my children go out trick-or-treating and the weather is beautiful. In the past they have gone out in sleet, snow, sleet and rain, rain, cold, snow and sleet, rain and hail!!!!!

I blackmailed them to go out only a little by buying each of them a huge bag of a candy treat.

Well, in honor of Halloween, the following is a little story!

An atheist was walking through the woods.
"What majestic trees"!
"What powerful rivers"!
"What beautiful animals"!
He said to himself.

As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes
behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards
him.

He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder & saw
that the bear was closing in on him.

He looked over his shoulder again, & the bear was even closer. He tripped &
fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw that the bear
was right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw & raising his
right paw to strike him.

At that instant the Atheist cried out, "Oh my God!"

Time Stopped.
The bear froze.
The forest was silent.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky. "You deny
my existence for all these years, teach others I don't exist and even credit
creation to cosmic accident." "Do you expect me to help you out of this
predicament? Am I to count you as a believer"?

The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me
to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps you could
make the BEAR a Christian"?

"Very Well," said the voice.

The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. And the bear dropped
his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed his head & spoke:

"Lord bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through
Christ our Lord, Amen."

Quiet

Finally, it is quite!

Weather

Yesterday, a two-part mega storm went through our area! Trees blown down, flooding, the ground is saturated, the Little Calumet River is running out of its banks at spots! We lost electricity for a long time!

Luckily for me, our van wasn't hurt by the huge branches that fell from a tree!

The sky was phenomenal! The wind up there was moving the clouds very speedily! At one point, I viewed clouds of such a color that I never had seen before. A group of the clouds went by, their color was brown or a brownish-purple. Such a hard color to describe!

Still, the thunder and lightening -- very noisy!

Still having a flash flood warning.

Don't remember a summer when we have had so many torrential storm warnings.

JOOST and tornadoes

, , ,

What have I done wrong? I used it once -- was way happy! Now, it is going wacky!
ARGGGG!!! JOOST-fix yourself up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a day! As I am writing this, tornado sirens are blasting! When my children were younger, we would all go into the basement and shut off the TV. Now, heck, that thing just makes a bunch of noise! If there are any tornadoes, they don't touch down here. Have only seen two here in my life! One was about 8 feet tall -- I would call that a whirlwind. One was really big but just evaporated -- poof. It was there, and then it was gone! That was kind of scarey as it materialized very near my minivan! Thank you Creator for watching over my children and me!

I once saw five 16- to 20-foot ones in a farm field when my son, Karl, and I were traveling to Bloomington; the weather was horrible, rain coming down so hard that at times you couldn't see and had to pull off the expressway. That was some night! They were tall and skinny tornadoes.

Viewed some big ones near Fermi-lab! They were black and we mistakenly thought something was on fire and they were actually smoke clouds! It was huge and broad. A lot of tornadoes form in that area of Illinois.

Tornadoes come in all shapes and sizes and many differing colors! White, black, grey -- sometimes the sky changes to a funny yellowish color before the tornado touches down. Sometimes there is hail, and differing rain patterns.

So, have educated myself on tornadoes by watching the nature shows on Discovery Channel, Weather Stories, Weather Channel, and whatever other channels have programs relative to tornadoes. Do believe I will now recognize a tornado in its miriad forms!

Oh, good, that dang-blasted siren is now off.

You know what, we also have sirens here for lightning! These lightning sirens are up at the baseball/softball fields and numerous town parks. They flash and make noise when lightning is 30 miles and closer. (I read lightning can strike from a distance of 60 miles and closer!) The games are supposed to stop and people are supposed to take shelter away from metal! Most people go into their vehicles, which, of course, are grounded. Often a stupid youth coach will put his kids into the dugouts, which are fencing, which is metal! Luckily, other people will tell the coach what to do. Anyway, after the sirens stop; you are supposed to wait to get an all-clear siren sound and the flashing stops.

Teddy was on a softball field thats fence got hit by lightening. He said the whole world turned white, there was a tremendous noise, and people nearby were knocked to the ground! Fortunately, no one was hit or hurt -- just shaken up. Apparentally they felt it coming, they all were in the process of running off the field. All their hair just stood up!

Do you have an lightning stories or tornado stories? I would like to hear them.
