It's Me It's Me

A potpourri of ME

Hated Commercial

,

Bullies glorified -- I ain't ever eating or getting Rootbeer here! Join the Boycott of A and W Rootbeer!!!! Please pass this on!!!!

By now I would think most of you have seen that horrible A and W Rootbeer commercial! It is the one with the two pro firefighters and the rookie. One pro has food, the rookie has just got his food. Then, the one without the food says something like, "I always get food here my way. Thanks, Rookie!" He proceeds to take the rookie's food! The rookie looks shocked and the bullying pro is just laughing. Even by the end of the commercial, the pro still has the rookie's food and is eating it!

I hate this commercial. Sure, my husband says in some sports and occupations it is expected for the freshmen or rookies to be taken advantage by the pros or upperclassmen or more experienced -- But, my husband also says that only jerks completely take advantage of the newbies!

The philosophy is it was done to me, so I will do it to them!

Break the cycle, morons! Remember how you felt when this was done to you! Isn't it a bit humiliating?

Whatever the circumstances, I can take a joke like the rest of 'em. I still hate bullies, and don't think someone's money and/or food should be taken from them!

I will never frequent an establishment which glorifies these attitudes and actions. I will NEVER buy A and W Rootbeer again!

Tell your friends! Boycott A and W Rootbeer, the drink and restaurants.

I hate bullies too. And I don't think that because someone is new somewhere makes it excusable. Actually, they should be doing the oppposite, helping the person to get accustomed to their new position.

I haven't eaten at A & W for years. My cousin told me that they stretched the hamburger meat by using sawdust. That kind of spoiled any enjoyment I would ever have gotten from their food.

There is something in the vast majority of advertising that just bugs the hell out of me.
I think its the appeal to the lowest common denominator, poking at the basest instinct.

I hate robbers and thieves  .
call a spade a spade. :irked:.
Having said that, I must confess that this franchise is not in South Africa and thus, I have not seen the advertisment. My comment is based on what was described here.

I think the worst advertisements are those where the actors shout at you. Screaming at people to buy their used cars or try their headache remedy. I make a point of NOT buying these products. Give me advertising directed towards CIVILIZED people any day!

I cannot remember when I last watched a television advert here in the UK...oh, yes, I can. It was for a pizza. Pretty silly, really. Advertising makes me hit the mute button with extraordinary speed. Though in truth, I'm not really a TV watcher and go long spells with hardly watching the box. I lived without a TV in Canada and didn't suffer too much

I agree though, I hate it when advertising condones rudeness, bullying, or selfishness.

Over the last few year, there has been a glutt of alcohol and gambeling adverts. both on tv and in our newspapers. And, of course, the inevitable, cellphone sex and porn adverts. :irked:

Turns out the rookie got the last laugh. Seems he knew that he was feeling very poorly and was probably coming down with the flu. Knowing the tradition of bullies in the department stealing food from rookies, after getting his order, he lifted the top of the bun and ran his tongue across it, he then spit on the hamburger.

It was hard for him to act amazed when the bully did, in fact, steal his food...but it was even harder for him to contain his laughter when the bully had to put in for sick leave one week later!

I'm the only one he revealed his secret to and I promised not to tell anyone in the department. Nobody here is in the department so I thought I'd share the truth with you. Mums the word!

:D :D :D

Wow, Lois! I ain't going to eat there, ever!

Richard, yes, I have noticed that, also. Another commericial I hate is the IKEA one where the lady looks at the pricetag and then runs to her car shouting, "Start the car! Start the car!" Driving away she laughs in a maniacal manner.

That commericial is condoning stealing!

I won't go to IKEA, also.

Yeah, Aadil. I totally agree. My husband says in sports, the rookies get treated in very much the same way as with the firemen in that commercial of A and W; so, of course, some people take advantage of it.

Some guy things I don't understand...

Lois, I agree. That is why I won't watch that "It is harder in Alaska" show. The guy yelling this in the commercials just seems so bullilike and mean -- not a he-man Alaskan.

Me, too, yell at me on commercials, and I ain't going there.

I vote for civilized, too!!!!!!

Adele, I agree with you, also. I just love to let the DVR record the programs I enjoy watching so I can zoom through the commercials soundlessly!

I remember learning that to zoom through moving pictures or photos your brain actually records the info to process later and remembers it better. A form of subliminalism. A art teacher I had in highschool said that.

I am going to try not to look at those zooming commercials, too!!!!:eyes:

Too many commercials are condoning awful manners and bad qualities! Why don't the commercials have censors like the TV shows do? I think the commercials need that more than the rest of TV...

Wow, Aadil, that is bad.

I haven't seen phone sex or porn adverts on TV. Some "swinging clubs, nude dancer" things, but done tastefully.

The gambling boats have civilized commercials that sometimes say to gamble responsibly and the alcohol ones always say to drink responsibly.

I am surprised that this is happening in South Africa, my impression of South Africa was that it was a very conservative place.

In the UK, commercials are censored, actually. There are controls on what can be on around children's television programmes and both TV programmes and adverts are subject to a "watershed"; ie certain things can only be shown after 9pm.

By SittingFox, # 3. July 2008, 20:49:03

avatar
That is good.

Yeah, around children's TV here they don't want smoking commercials.

I am amazed what commercials they put where now-a-days!

I'll be watching a program at a time when all children should be asleep, and a crazy toy add will come on.

Also, conversely, I am amazed at what children commercials are!

Hey, do you watch Dr. Who? Or Sarah Jane adventures? Or Torchwood?
I watch ABBC here (American BBC).

That steel dog cracks me up! He is supposed to have a show all his own in Australia. I don't know if I would ever watch it, I would be convulsing in histarics! Too far out, even for me...

No, I hardly watch any TV  I like the better parts of Star Trek TNG, and Yes Minister (an old BBC political farce / satire about a civil servant who manipulates his minister into obeying the will of the Civil Service - as an ex-civil servant, I find it highly amusing ) But I rarely just sit in front of a TV. If I have it on, I want it to be background while I'm drawing or something. I'm much more a computer person than a TV person.

SittingFox was it accurate along with amusing?
loved the show myself

Well, I worked in the Home Office, not the Department for Administrative Affairs  but could probably write a few episodes myself, the things I saw in there! I was certainly much lower down the food chain than Sir Humphrey but yes, he would have been deeply proud of the bureaucracy and absurdity in my department :insane:

I really do love that series. It's so clever.

Excellent!! It makes me happy, just like Faulty Towers wasn't too far from the truth behind Hotels.

The 'watershed' is a gimmick and political ploy. More teenagers watch tv after nine than adults. Most teenagers have tv's in thier rooms if there parents can afford it. It's like saying, 'don't watch this' and then laughing when they do.
Alcohol and gambling adverts have the 'drink/gamble responsibly' disclaimer only because it's required by law. Ironicaly, it affords them legal protection so that when the alcoholic or gambling addict ends up in the gutter, they can't sue the company that put them there.
At least mobile networks block all mobiles from accessing adult content by default. You have to go physically to the mobile service provider with your barcoded id document to have your mobile unblocked. Even sites like getjar are banned if you're not over 18.
The one loophole, however, is Operamini. It gives access to sites that might be banned otherwise. But downloading is still blocked at least.

Aadil, that is something else, isn't it? Commercials...

Having never tried to download icky stuff on my phone, I have no idea if the citizens of the USA have to go to the phone company to get access to porn.

I hate that porn and bad stuff and awful language are labeled "adult content" -- most adults don't engage in such activities or use such language!

It should be labeled, "foul-abusive language" "porn" or other descriptive words that actually tell what someone is getting access to.

Anyone else feel this way????
