This album is partly a re-release because seven of the thirteen songs have been released before on the “Thieves of Impressions” album “Sophia’s Nectar” in 1994. the rest of the album is recorded in 1995 but never been released before. “Obscured by the dark years” starts with a nice bombastic neo classical intro “Leszerazz’ Galliard” but the rest of the music is a kind of poppy Neo folk like music without the characteristic military drum patterns. So it is quite difficult to give this album a place, not because it sounds so original but more because it is a bit of everything. The music is just too much Gothic to be Neo folk. I even have to think about LACRIMOSA sometimes and that seems funny. Concrescence is comparable with BELBORN at times but is more melancholic. Maybe the music even goes more towards the Heavenly Voices genre. The songs are very well arranged and there is a lot of singing by male and female, the female singer is not always in tone and has a heavy German accent. “Herz” is a very nice instrumental and the darkest track. “Celtic wedding” is a re-mix and influenced by celtic music and is therefore the most swinging track. Overall I think this album is not so very obscured by the dark years, it is just one out of many.

Saurom Lamderth is a metal band from Spain that incorporates the use flutes,
bagpipes, violins and other folk intruments in their dominantly metal style of
music.

The band performs solely in Spanish, and the general lyrical theme for their
albums is often heavily linked to the Tolkien novels.
Saurom Lamderth are often known to put on rather extravagant shows, featuring
intricate stage setups including the use of a lot of pyrotechnics and fire. The
band also like to feature the use of juggles, fire breathers and many other
"circus acts" during their shows.

Feeling cheerful? Well, here is the cure for that, Maa?et from Finnish band Tenhi is oozing with gloom and melancholia and is filled with music that comes with a rather depressive touch. Maa?et is the third album from Tenhi that plays folk-influenced progressive music, according to themselves.

Their music is very calm and also has a very dark ambient feeling with the acoustic instruments, although there lays a heavy sense of darkness over the music, yet there is beauty with the melody-lines. The first track Varpusp?iv? is a really beautiful track with its calm ongoing tempo and the melancholy that is brought forward with piano and violin, until the vocals start. The male dark vocals kind of remind me of Nick Cave and unfortunately it tears down the beauty that they built up with the music.

There is a power in their music, and even though it is rather calm and slow there is a force held in their highly folk inspired music. And when the piano and violin are put as much in the front of the sound as they are it brings out a might in the melancholia. The biggest problem for me with Maaaet from Tenhi is not that the music is far from what I usually listen to, since there is lots of dark beauty here that actually fell to my likening, but it is the vocals that is dragging this far down, and mostly due to the language. Finnish is a hard and kill me if you like - an ugly - language. The contrast between the softness in the music and the harsh language does not interact very well.

Nevertheless this turns to be an interesting album rather than a good one according to me, and if this album had been done with English lyrics and a female vocalist, say someone like Liv Kristine from Leave's Eyes, I believe that this would have been much better.

Tenhi的新专集maaäet。一拖再拖，从05年一直等到了06年。Tenhi总是用阴暗忧郁敏感脆弱的气质来吸引我们去聆听。
