Opera and Accessibility

, ,

Updated

Last night, I was at my local Usability Professional's Association (UPA) meeting on making accessibility real... and as those at the event know, Opera came up several times.

Philip Kragnes, Adaptive Technology specialist with the University of Minnesota (Accessibility of Information Technology)noted several times Opera in the relm of Accessibility, and even mentioned our beloved Håkon Wium Lie in regards to CSS.

As it turns out though, IE and Firefox are being used with the accessibility tools there at the U of M. But I'm not willing to give up on this topic. I'd like to do a little research with Opera Voice and other accessibility features baked into the browser that might come close to what's currently being used. If anyone is interested, perhaps we could visit the university and see how Firefox and IE are being used and if Opera could contribute.

Even if you're not interested in the topic, you'll learn amazing things from keyboard shortcuts to alternative (ie- more efficient) ways of handling your browser.

Comments are always open if you're interested.

During our round table intro, we were asked to note one thing in our lives that is related to accessibility. Again- this is a UPA meeting, not an Opera meeting, but on my turn, I mentioned the voice reading/command capabilities of Opera.
