Walley World was originally Disneyland as portrayed in Chevy Chase's 1983 flick 'Vaction'. They tried to get permission to use Disneyland, but Disney pointed out that they were open 365/366 days of the year (Plus they probably didn't want to get ridiculed) so National Lampoon called the place Walley World, thus making it obvious to all but the dimmest cinema-goer exactly where the family were bound.

Later, as Wal Mart got bigger and bigger people started calling that Wallyworld too, but you'll notice the different spelling...

Sometimes I wonder if I know everything.
