AMEN, Brother!

what happens when the people we send to congress don't think things through.

we need more of these people :D

separation of church and state

it was originally meant to keep the state out of the church, but now it's been warped the other way around. my problem with this is a) most people's upbringing is based off of religious values, and yes, believe it or not, politicians are people and b) don't/shouldn't churches have as much right to lobby as other organizations like planned parenthood, unions, etc?

global warming

,

surprisingly to some, i am not going to deny global warming completely; it's a well-known fact that our earth is warmer than it has been in the past. however, it is also a well known fact that the earth has warmed, as well as cooled, numerous times before.

i am not going to deny the fact that so-called "greenhouse gases do not help the problem," but with CO2 levels in the parts per million level and methane in the parts per billion level, how much damage can it be doing? the earth has had carbon dioxide and methane fluctuations before, and it's survived so far.

but what can we do about the levels of gas in our atmosphere but try to cut down on them? and we can only cut out so much, we cannot force the rest of the world (namely china and india) to do anything. we (meaning the western world) are merely a drop in the bucket in relation to global emissions; china's population is switching from bicycles to cars and the minimally regulated coal-fired power plants to fuel their industry are giving off astronomical amounts of emissions.

my point is, there's only so much we can do, even if we cut out emissions completely in our nation, carbon monoxide and methane levels will continue to rise.

things have to change, but is it worth going crazy over?

How long?

clicky

how long should the US government provide for these people? sure it's a shame that they lost everything, and that FEMA gave supplies to other people than them, but it's their jobs to get back on their own feet, not that of the government.

What's Wrong With War?

Yeah, I know I'm pushing some wrong buttons here, but what exactly is wrong with it?

Sure there's death, loss, grieving, sorrow, blood, guts, expenses, etc, and should be avoided at all costs, but why is it that once we're into one, people magically have revelations about all of the above and want out?

Maybe it's all the media and information accessible to us in this day and age, maybe it's changing philosophies, maybe it's stronger religious beliefs, but war hasn't changes much since WWII, when it was strongly supported.

I know that WWII was absolutely necessary because if we didn't take the offensive, we would have been flanked from both coasts, but what about the wars before that? especially the civil war; you didn't see protesters taking to the streets in an attempt to cease the fire between North and South.

And how about Korea? it was identical to Vietnam: an attempt to stop communism from spreading, but it had little opposition.

And then the TV age came. Crews followed the divisions of soldiers into the heart of the Vietnamese jungles and documented their every move. when the soldiers came home, they were shunned by the people who sat at home with a beer and a TV dinner watching the men sent out in their place in the comfort of their homes, shaggy rugs and all. Ironic, huh?

Though soldiers are no longer shunned, but pampered and protected, by the American public, the same shit still goes on. TC crews follow soldiers around, American families are disgusted by what goes on in war, though safer then ever, watching from recliners in the Family Room, not with a beer and a TV dinner, but with a milkshake and super sized number 3 from McDonalds, now fatter then ever. Though they're not ridiculing the jobs done by the soldiers, they are still ridiculing the job.

Everyone who ridicules the war and the jobs done by the legislators who THEY ELECTED TO SIT IN FOR THEM to no end need to get off of their pedestal and get a whiff of the real world. the real world is not one with food available to no end, no death, hate, rage, suffering, or anything like that. the real world is tough, and sometimes extreme measures have to be taken to make it a little better.

AND war solves problems, maybe not in the most "civilized" way, but it does solve problems. and, although it can create some, doesn't everything else create problems?

those are my opinions, criticize them all you want, but sometimes war IS necessary, and if ti isn't and it happens anyway, like Iraq may be, it still has to be done right and not abandoned.
