Ajajaj, Opeth are playing in VA when M&P are here. I am seriously considering dragging them to some (hopefully) nice place around cheasapeak bay for the weekend, just so I can ditch them and see the band. Whaddaya think? I will have to lyssna in mig som fan on them before though, but luckyli all your opeth records are on my laptop so I totally can. Still, alone in a strange music venue with a bunch of American metal heads. I dont know if that is good or bad.

well, opeth is pretty far from what you'd call a regular metal band - and metal heads are pretty nice people anyways smile surely you can leave them at some museum or other while you go to the concert.

what is mrview?

mrgnu Thursday, March 5, 2009 6:12:15 PM

it's an image viewer i worked on for a while on my spare time. i don't think i'll ever complete it, but it was worth a try putting it on the list.

kirsten kirstycat Friday, March 6, 2009 9:00:22 AM

Why do you think it'll never be finished?
Have you released your own projects before? Can you release it as it is? smile Maybe it is perfect the way it is and you are just being overly critical of it wink

mrgnu Friday, March 6, 2009 10:27:47 AM

because i spend a lot more time thinking of cool home projects than actually working on them.
no, i've never really released any home project (apart from the on-night snake game in python hack i posted here, but that doesn't count). and no, it's not perfect yet, far from.

kirsten kirstycat Friday, March 6, 2009 11:11:14 AM

I thought that computer programmers never thought that something they were working on was ever complete though, that no matter how good it already was, there was always little things that could be done to improve it! No? smile

I used to get like that with my paintings, they were never finished as far as I was concerned!
I didn't like looking at them when they were on display, because I would always see things that I could have made better!

mrgnu Friday, March 6, 2009 2:01:05 PM

true, i guess the problem is (or the problem i have at least) getting so disgruntled you stop working on it at all.

kirsten kirstycat Friday, March 13, 2009 3:05:01 PM

Are you a perfectionist with your work?

mrgnu Friday, March 13, 2009 3:10:46 PM

not really, but in my spare time p
nah, i guess the problem is when it comes to hobby projects i find it much more fun to dream up crazy things than actually realizing them.

kirsten kirstycat Friday, March 13, 2009 3:23:16 PM

eek! I wonder what you could unleash upon the computer world if you were to complete those crazy ideas of yours wink Are they of the mad-scientist variety?

mrgnu Friday, March 13, 2009 3:27:37 PM

nah, more of the fun stuff variety. i had some mad scientist ideas when i first started programming (hooking in to the spinal cord, force feedback body suits, 3d gloves etc) but then the movie industry caught up (or sometimes i caught up with the movies). i'm still pondering that sword simulator though, that'd be awesome. and eventually i'll have to build my own pinball machine smile

kirsten kirstycat Friday, March 13, 2009 4:38:13 PM

I wonder if someone will invent a sword fighting game for the wii? smile

Sounds to me like you should invest in your own pinball machine to keep in your living room, since you love it so much wink

mrgnu Saturday, March 14, 2009 6:35:42 PM

i thought about that, but then i started counting. turns out if i want a decent game i'd have to play two credits a day, five days a week for over three years before breaking even. and then i'd be stuck with that same game. nowadays i don't even need two credits, most times i get at least one replay, which would make it twice the time. still, it'd be really cool to have your own pinball game smile

I see you've met a girl smile I thought you'd gone a bit quiet on your blog wink

mrgnu Tuesday, April 27, 2010 8:00:30 AM

yes, i have smile no time for blogging now - spring is in the air, car's up and running again

kirsten kirstycat Tuesday, April 27, 2010 8:09:41 AM

Great! Nice to see a happy mrgnu yes
Glad you've got your car back too, this will be a great summer!
Happy for you smile

mrgnu Tuesday, April 27, 2010 11:14:46 AM

it so totally will smile it's the 10s, i've felt for a long time the 10s are going to be totally awesome - and they will. also, this is my first saturn return (not that i believe in that sort of thing p)

kirsten kirstycat Tuesday, April 27, 2010 2:58:31 PM

Is that something to do with horoscopes? I wouldn't have imagined you as a horoscope reader smile

mrgnu Wednesday, April 28, 2010 10:51:02 AM

yes, or at least astrology - and no, i'm not into that. i bought some clothes for burning man from a store located in sthlm called saturn return and somehow ended looking up the origin of the name, and realized it was time for my first saturn return - the astrologers cunningly picked a planet who's orbit coincides with going from youth to adulthood, and from adulthood to old age. ergo there's now time for change, but not because of saturn but because i'm growing up. which i don't mind half as much as i thought i would smile
