download, music, tutorial, opera
...

Yesterday I prepared a short video tutorial that shows how to download
full length mp3 files from last.fm. You don't need an account on last.fm.
Most tutorials for downloading music from last.fm depend on some way to record the running stream - this is not the case with
mget. It will give You the direct download link to the track that You can use with Opera or anything else that You use to download files.
There is a little bit of Opera advocacy smuggled into the tutorial

Have Fun!
If anyone wonders, this tutorial was created using

browsers, opera

I encountered a weird way to close the last tab in Opera. Usually You can close all tabs except the last one, like in
this example screenshot. As You probably already spotted, the screenshot on the left doesn't contain that tab.
The way to achieve this situation is to open a new opera window (Ctrl+N), and drag the speed-dial tab from the newly opened window into any other Opera window. Check it for Yourself. Do You know of any other ways to close the last tab?

gentoo, opera, linux
I couldn't figure out how to do it. But a friend came to the rescue (thanks Karql) with
this link. The only thing that I did was emerging media-fonts/kochi-substitute and restarting Opera. After the restart the fonts were instantly displayed correctly without any additional configuration. This is a big ++ for Opera. I'll probably leave installing Chinese and Korean fonts for later, as each one of them is about 40M to download. If You need more precise info on how to do it in Gentoo - check the link at the beginning of this post.

browsers, opera, firefox
A long time ago. I used Opera on my previous Debian GNU/Linux box (now using Gentoo), but several months later I switched to Firefox ( mostly because of it's marvelous ad-block plug-in ). I used Firefox for about 7 months and was quite happy with it. So why am I writing this post now using Opera and not FF? The answer is simple, 128 ram on my box is not enough for Firefox along with some other applications at the same time. I decided to give Opera another chance. I emerged it this morning, and was very nicely surprised by it's speed and low ram consumption. Also the lack of ad-block is not so annoying now, as my friend Slashbeast directed me to hide-objects.js. And even without that script it wouldn't be so bad, because now that most of my ram is free, even those annoying floating flash ads aren't so bad. A big ++ for Opera, and I hope that this good impression will not fade in time.
