Murkrow: Battle me for free Pokemon

The Titan

My Zelda Favorites: We Dream of Zelda (Read more to see the list)

Nothing quite like Zelda. This series was brought to us by none other than Mario, Metroid, Star Fox (and the list continues…) creator Shigeru Miyamoto. As of the point in time of 2010 (and maybe one more year afterwards before the next Zelda game for Wii is released), the whole Zelda experience can be brought to you via your Nintendo Gamecube (if you still have it) and Gameboy Player (excluding the DS games Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, and the Wii version of Twilight Princess). Here is a list of my Zelda titles in order (excluding the CD-I games, they were a disgrace: a true Zelda fan would never mention them). While there is no real way to consider which Zelda game is better than the other, there will always be one that you love fondly enough to be your favorite and what an impact it left for you in the series.
TAKE NOTE, this list will be included on a Zelda fan-based website that I will more than likely be making sometime during next year. I will add Spirit Tracks to the list once I played it.

Wi-Fi Battles, I Am Back! Leave Your Friend Codes Here!

I am back on wi-fi playing DS games, sweet! It has been over a year now (for those of you who know me here) since I have been on wi-fi due to technical obstacles, so I have been honing my skills (or I may be rusty, don’t know yet, lol!). But that has all changed (for at least during the next two months). Anyway, Pokemon battles are usually what I do, so here is my new friend code for it: “Murkrow : 1333-6743-6663.” I also do Mario Kart DS and Star Fox: Command for others who want to do something different, just ask. Until my DS Lite is repaired, I will have to use my old DS which the Mic does not work, so Voice Chat for me is useless. So you personally will have to tell me what conditions in which we will battle under (I will be able to hear you, but not able to respond back). I also can’t communicate on a computer and play wi-fi at the same time because I go to my neighborhood library to get to internet and their wi-fi doesn’t connect to a DS, so I have to go elsewhere to wi-fi. It is a hassle for me, but it is better than nothing. Finally, I am online and wi-fi Tuesday and Fridays U.S. Eastern Time between the hours of 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM, and the other days I am on wi-fi at 8:15 PM to about 10:00 PM (I may come later and may leave earlier). So basically, this is how to contact me. Leave your friend codes here and I will come back to them and message you. Thank you.

Mario Kart (Wii and DS) and custom Avatars

This is the Mario Kart Community created by I, Murkrow (Chris). Anyway, there is not much here now, but I will add on. I will list custom Mario Kart DS avatars, tips, and more. List your comments if wanted.

My Top 10 Pokemon Moves, Abilities, and Items

Top 10 Moves
Here is a list of my favorite top 10 moves in order and why they are possibly the best. I wish I could have picked out more, but I kept it at 10. If you don’t agree with them, let me know by leaving a comment.

11. Outrage – Okay, I lied. I had to include Outrage. It is a powerful move that can take down every type except for Steel-types. The move gained an additional 30 attack power when it was introduce in Diamond and Pearl, then made available to every Dragon, plus others (like Snorlax, Lapras, and Swampert) by the means of a Move Tutor in Pokemon Platinum. The only con about using this move is that you can’t choose another move (doesn’t really matter since it is really strong) and it confuses the Pokemon. Use a status-curing berry (like a Lum Berry) or the move Safeguard beforehand to fix the problem of becoming confused.

10. Thunder Wave (And Other Paralyzing Moves) – Thunder Wave is a great favorite of mine: it is 100% accurate, slows the foe down, and keeps it from attacking 25% of the time (on average). It is a great way to disrupt legendaries and stall for time with defensive Pokemon. Other moves like Glare, Thunder, Stun Spore, and Body Slam also offer satisfying results.

9. Baton Pass – Great for passing stats to another Pokemon on your team. Making your character of your choice when you switch out to be more powerful than it naturally can be makes it a terrific wall or sweeper (for those of you who don’t know either terms, a wall is a defensive Pokemon that can stall and a sweeper is a Pokemon that can deliver potential 1-hit KO attacks because it is so strong). However, your foe can lower your stats and you still transfer the effects, giving this move one of its cons. Besides using moves like Sword Dance and Agility to pump up stats, use other moves like Substitute, Aqua Ring, Magnet Rise, etc. for other results (Using Smeargle is a great way to experiment with these results. Effort Value train one in Speed to get more satisfying results). Mainly, experiment with your moves and strategies (Hint: Baton Pass to a Bibarel with the ability of “Simple.”).

8. HP Stealing Moves (Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Dream Eater, Drain Punch, Pain Split) – What could be better than doing some damage and benefiting from them by restoring your own HP? These moves can usually stall you more time if you pull them off and do a lot of damage in the process. The only slight downside is that they don’t do as much damage. Combining a Leftovers or Big Root item makes these moves more useful. Using Substitute with these moves is also a great way to make a wall.

7. Sleep Inducing Moves (Spore, Lovely Kiss, Hypnosis, Sleep Powder, Dark Void, Yawn) – Putting your opponent to sleep and stalling for time or powering up is a great way to have an advantage against your opponent. The only problem is that these moves are slightly inaccurate in hitting the foe (except for Spore). Use a Wide Lens to make these moves more useful.

6. Toxic – A move that drains your opponent’s HP more and more each turn. Using defensive Pokemon with health-restoring moves and Protect make this a very annoying tactic for your opponent (especially Shuckle and Cresselia). The only con is that the poison is reset once the foe switches out.

5. Stat Increasing Moves That Increase 2 Stats (Bulk Up, Dragon Dance, Calm Mind, Cosmic Power, Stockpile) – Increase two stats in one turn? What a deal!! They are very useful and they take up one slot of your move list. The only problem is you may need more of a boost when you really need it and it in not available to you (Sword Dance; one turn. Dragon Dance; two turns). However, they are very beneficial, especially when you use Baton Pass (this is why I like using Smeargle) or health restoring moves.

4. Health Restoring Moves (Recover, Softboiled, Slack Off, Roost, Morning Sun, Moonlight, Synthesis, Rest, Swallow) – For those of you who are veterans of Pokemon (actually anyone can experience this now), remember in the old days when you first encountered a Legendary Pokemon and you whittled its HP down to almost nothing so you could catch it, only to find out that it used Recover to restore half of its maximum HP? Then you probably either swore and cursed at the game and threw your handheld halfway across the room. Yeah,… we have been there. These moves are great to use when you are using a defensive wall or trying to power-up. Not too many Pokemon could use this move back in the day, and Softboiled could be learned by almost only Chansey (In Pokemon Emerald, a Move Tutor can teach it to a few Pokemon, but it is mostly angelical-looking Pokemon like Clefable and Togetic and of course, Mew). Morning Sun, Synthesis, and Moonlight came next in Gold and Silver, and the weather effected there effectiveness. This opened the availability of Pokemon restoring their health even more. Now in Diamond and Pearl, Roost was a great addition to the moveset because many flying legendaries and dragons could use the move (Roost’s only downside is that it makes it vulnerable to Ground-type moves if you are Flying or have Levitate ability). The ability to gain half your HP in a single turn is a double thumbs-up for me, and it can be annoying for anyone to restore their HP after someone had brought down the foe’s HP by so much. Rest restores all of you HP and cures any Status problems, but you are asleep for two turns (Hint: use abilities like Early Bird and Hydration from Dewgong and Manaphy, moves like Sleep Talk, and items like Lum Berries. Avoid the Insomnia ability. Rest with Leaf Guard should work, but it doesn’t which is a shame.).

3. Charge Beam – This move may seem week, but its effect makes it all the more powerful. Not only do you do damage to your opponent, but you have an extremely high chance of raising your Special Attack by one level. It is a great move to use with defensive Pokemon and those with health restoring moves. It is especially dangerous with legendaries because they already have enough power as it is, turning them into sweepers. However, it does have a tiny downside; it has a 90% ratio of hitting and you may not get the power-up when you need it. Fix this problem entirely with a Wide Lens and possibly throw in the move Thunder (if you have Electric-types). Finally, the most beneficial time to use Charge Beam is with a Pokemon with Serene Grace (Hint: Dunsparce, Jirachi, Blissy). Because there will be a 100% chance of raising your Special Attack.

2. Suicidal Attacks and Retaliation Moves (Explosion/Destiny Bond, Counter, Mirror Coat, Metal Burst, Bide) – These are some of the best moves to use in order to take down legendaries and strong Pokemon while your own Pokemon don’t even have to have real power. A double battle and using the move Explosion while paired up with a Pokemon with Protect or a Ghost-type leaves devastating effects. Destiny Bond will take out a Pokemon with a single hit from your opponent (unless they have a Focus Sash). Finally, Counter and Mirror Coat return double damage to physical and special attacks respectively. Metal Burst and Bide offer similar effects and can take both types of moves, but they are more costly.

1. Speed Altering Moves For Your Entire Team (Trick Room and Tailwind) - My all-time favorite strategy is Trick Room (for those of you who know me). To me, it offers the best means of strategy of attack against almost any Pokemon. Trick Room gives the chance of slower Pokemon a chance to move first for 5 turns (The same is true for you opponent however, so you will have to raise a very special team. Trick Room’s effect can be canceled if the move is used again by anyone). A lot, and I mean A LOT, of Pokemon with a slow Speed stat are incredibly powerful (Hint: Snorlax, Machamp, Rampardos, Ursaring, and Tyranitar to name a few). Mainly Psychic-types and Ghost-types can use the move (don’t forget about Smeargle). Tailwind gives you team the opportunity to have their speed increased for 2 turns, but it makes you need to work faster when unleashing your strategy [Hint: my first team I ever used on wi-fi with Tailwind was where I teamed up my Smeargle (it also hand Helping Hand, Spore, and Rain Dance) with my Kyogre with Water Spout and Protect and it had incredibly devastating results]. These moves are my number favorite, and possibly the best moves.

Top 10 Abilities

Here is a list of my favorite top 10 Pokemon abilities in order and why they are possibly the best. I wish I could have picked out more, but I kept it at 10. If you don’t agree with them, let me know by leaving a comment.

10. Wonder Guard – Shedinja is the only one with this ability (except for a hacked Spiritomb or Sableye). Wonder Guard protects the Pokemon from super-effective hits, but Shedinja is weak to five types and a status problem can kill it. Plus, by the time Diamond and Pearl came out, it gave Pokemon the ability to become very versatile (what I mean is, a lot of Pokemon can learn good moves now to have an advantage against a lot of different other Pokemon). So, this ability has more cons than pros with Shedinja.

9. No Guard – Machop, Machoke, and Machamp own this ability. It allows boths you and your opponent’s moves to hit each other. Combine this with moves like Dynamicpunch, Cross Chop, Stone Edge, and Giga Impact to ensure a 100% hit ratio. However, No Guard can be used against you; if your opponent has a move like Sheer Cold or Horn Drill, you’re toast!

8. Levitate – Avoid Ground-type moves, that is all there is too it. A great addition to use in a double battle paired up with another Pokemon that knows Earthquake…

7. Pressure – A good way to destroy you opponents PP points. Most Legendary Pokemon and Ghost-types know the move. Combine it with moves Spite and Protect to really drain you foe’s attacks.

6. Evasive Abilities (Snow Cloak and Sand Veil) – Using Hail and Sandstorm respectfully and combining it with a Brightpower item and the move Double Team will almost have you impervious from getting hit.

5. Swift Swim/Chlorophyll – Using Rain Dance and Sunny Day respectfully to get a speed boost and power-up your moves is a fast way to take advantage of your opponents…

4. Weather Abilities (Drought, Drizzle, Sand Stream, Snow Warning, Air Lock, Forecast) – Using these abilities to instantly start up the weather is a great tactic, and they stay on the field permanently until they are changed. Take advantage of moves like Solarbeam, Blizzard, and Thunder with the weather in effect. Air Lock (Rayquaza) will keep the affects of the weather from taking place while it is on the field. Castform’s Forecast ability will change its type with the weather (except Sandstorm) and its Weather Ball attack (Roserade also has Weather Ball).

3. Serene Grace – Double the effects of your moves? Incredible!!! However, not too many Pokemon know the ability, but it is a good one. Combine with moves like Charge Beam, Ancientpower, Flinching moves, and status causing moves to see its full potential. Use items to boosts the effects of the moves even further with this ability.

2. Magic Guard – This ability is own by Clefable (and its pre-evolutions). It prevents anything but direct attacks from hurting the Pokemon. Status conditions, stat lowering moves, weather (Sandstorm and Hail), and the additional effects of moves won’t hurt it (and a few others). Too bad Clefable is the only one with this ability (Hint: Make Clefable hold Toxic Orb and let it have the move Facade. Clefable won’t receive damage and have Facade powered-up.).

1. Abilities That Raise A Move’s Type “In A Pinch” (Overgrow, Blaze, Torrent, Swarm) – When your Pokemon’s HP falls to 1/3, your move’s type will be increased by a 1.5 multiplier (for example, Hydro Pump will do 180 instead of 120 if the Torrent ability is activated). Only Starter Pokemon have these abilities (all but Swarm) and a lot of Bug-types have the Swarm ability. Combine this with Nasty Plot and Sword Dance and you get a really good sweeper to use in Battle. Make the Pokemon also hold a Focus Sash or have the move Endure to ensure that you can pull off this strategy.

Top 10 Hold Items

Here is a list of my favorite top 10 Pokemon Hold Items in order and why they are possibly the best. I wish I could have picked out more, but I kept it at 10. If you don’t agree with them, let me know by leaving a comment.

10. Choice Scarf (Also: Choice Band/Choice Specs) – Choice Scarf allows you to get a huge speed boost, however you have to limit yourself to using only one attack (you reset the effect once you switch out). It may seem like a useless item, but try equipping the item with strong Pokemon (Hint: Kyogre with Water Spout and Thunder attacks, Slaking with Giga Impact, Porygon-Z with Adaptability and Hyper Beam, Rampardos with Smash Head, etc.) Choice Band and Choice Specs have similar affects in which they boost the Attack and Special Attack stat respectively, but once again, you can use only one of your attacks…

9. King’s Rock/Razor Fang – Allow yourself to increase your chances of flinching your foe into submission. Combine this with moves that cause flinch or better yet, use it on a Pokemon with the Serene Grace ability to really frustrate your opponents (Hint: Dunsparce, Togekiss, Blissy, Jirachi).

8. Life Orb – Trade a few points of your HP in order to power up your attacks. Often a risky sort of item, but combine it with characters with huge powerful stats and moves, you might just get a potential sweeper…

7. Berries That Reduce Super-Effective Moves (Berries: Occa, Passho, Wacan, Rindo, Yache, Chople, Kebia, Shuca, Coba, Payapa, Tanga, Charti, Kasib, Colbur, Babiri, Chilan). These berries respectively cut your foe’s super-effective move power in half (but only once). You never know if one turn could make a difference in a battle. The Chilan Berry reduces the damage from a Normal-Type move, so this berry is an exception since no Pokemon is weak to a Normal-type attack.

6. Lum Berry – Prevents full-coverage against a status problem only once in battle (I wonder if Obama heard about these things: it might solve his and our big problem with Health Care…). Anyway, it is a good one-turn disrupter for your foe who is trying to land a status problem on you. You could combine this berry with the moves Outrage and Rest…

5. Weather-Increasing Rocks (Smooth, Icy, Heat, Damp) – Get an additional 2 turns of weather on the field when you respectively use a weather-causing move that benefits with these items. I don’t use these too often, but they are beneficial for making a battle be more in your favor.

4. Leftovers/Black Sludge – Restores a little HP to you Pokemon automatically each turn (great for Pokemon you plan on using as a wall). Combine this with moves like Aqua Ring, Ingrain, Recover, and Leech Seed to get back a lot of health. Black Sludge is only for a Poison-type and will cause only damage if you equipped it to any other type.

3. Focus Sash/ Focus Band – Focus Sash allows you to survive a potential 1-hit kill move (and I don’t mean attacks like Horn Drill or Sheer Cold, I mean ANY move). It will be very useful, IF your HP is completely full, and it works only once. Focus Band is similar, but it is based on mere luck if you survive, but it can work multiple times to keep you from fainting (but only if you are lucky, and I don’t like relying on luck). Try pumping up your stats with strong Pokemon with low defenses to make a sweeper out of them (Hint: also use moves like Flail or Reversal). Baton Passing stats before you are knocked out is also beneficial (once again, Smeargle is a good candidate with this strategy and these items). Try it also with a Pokemon with Explosion (won’t save you from this move, but you will be able to pull it off at least) or Destiny Bond. To get to the point, a Focus Sash will give a chance to a Pokemon that doesn’t normally get to stay on the field often.

2. Berries That Increase A Stat “In A Pinch” (Liechi, Ganlon, Salac, Petaya, Apicot, Starf Lansat, Micle, Custap) – If your HP is really low, you will benefit by getting a stat increase with the first 5 berries on this list (a Starf Berry will randomly raise a stat, including evasiveness). The other berries will offer similar effects like critical-hits, raise a move’s accuracy once, and let your Pokemon move first once (respectively). Use the move Endure to ensure the opportunity to activate the item (imagine the havoc you could cause if you could use the move Recycle and health-restoring moves along with the berry of your choice). It is a great way to pump up your stats if you don’t have the actual moves to boost your stats. However, you are taking a chance by letting your health get so low in order to activate it, but it is worth it if you pull it off.

1. Wide Lens – Slightly increase the accuracy of all of your Pokemon’s moves. Why such a special item? Think about the times you lost when you really needed a powerful move, but it was costly because its accuracy was really low (To me, 85% or lower is inaccurate and I get really irritated. Even 90% drives me up the wall…). Combine this with moves like Sleep Powder, Hypnosis, Dark Void, Smash Head, Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, Thunder, Focus Blast, Blizzard, Hyper Beam, Giga Impact, Iron Tail, Megahorn, Meteor Mash, Stone Edge, etc.(you get the point), and you will see the difference. I personally like to combine it with Charge Beam. Experiment with your moves and items and strategies to find the one you approve of the most.

New Zelda game for Wii

A new Wii Zelda game on the way!!!!! Well, it will probably be 2 or 3 more years before we can get it, but look at the artwork for it. In my opinion, I hope it is just as long as Twilight Princess, but also harder (like Ocarina of Time hard, the combat it Twilight Princess was TOO easy and enemies did not do enough damage and when you die, you restart in the dungeon room you were in, not at the beginning). TP was way TOO easy and that let my hopes down (it is still a wonderful game). Another thing that bothered me about Twilight Princess was that Link was right handed to fit the Wii's control scheme (he has always been left handed sinse the first Zelda game), that is why I liked and kept only the Gamecube version (it is the same thing, no motion controls though) and rented the Wii version to play once or twice. But by the looks of the artwork, Link's shield is in his left hand and his sword (well, you don't see any; maybe the girl in the pic is a weapon, she looks like a sword)in his right, so that kills my hopes. But I hope Link is left handed and the controls are normal like TP. The title of every Zelda game reflects the gameplay, and the title for this one looks like a coat of steel (to match the girl and whatever weapon Link may posses). In Gamepro mag., the background was described as "hellish" cuz' Link's new destination is brightly colored as like fire and behind a broken wall as shown in the picture. I can't wait for a new Zelda!!!! Here is a link (no pun intended) for the information:

Fault

This is a poem that I've written recently. It is rather lengthy, but read it if you have the chance. It is about what I fell to believe about how this life is slowly falling apart; a world we all inhabit in. Many of these problems I feel to be evident and I hope you feel the same. Anyway, enjoy.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

This is a new one on me, that's for sure! The idea of a train being in a Zelda game sounds stupid and not like a traditional Zelda game, but you should not be scarred: imbrace it. The trailer looks great, the graphics are much better than Phantom Hourglass (and they were good). I am curious how the "Spirit Tracks" title will come into play. The dugeons look slightly more complicated and that is a good thing. Hopfully, there will be more than six items than from the last game(that was kinda stingy)and made the game feel a little short. Here is a link to the trailer:

A New Year...With Old and New Problems

It is 2009 at last, or at least I wish to say. I officially turned 18, yet I do not feel happy. There was not much for Christmas or my birthday and it was not because of today's economy (however, I guess I should still be thankful, I got $35). Next, I have to get my Wii repaired for a second time (there goes $20). Senior Projects at my school are incredibly stressful and I will be judged ( I drew a 9 foot tall poster of the scene from Zelda:Twilight Princess). And finally, speaking about the economy, it is getting slightly worse due to the fact that there is not enough money circulating to stimulate the economy. Hopefully, Barack Obama can make his new policies a reality, and not be just like other politicians just trying to get people to cast their votes. In the end, whatever happens, happens. So enjoy your time on My OPera and view my blog for videos, advice, Brawl Custom Stages (at least 10 are on the way) and listen to my music. Sometime or another I will be able to play on wifi when it is working properly for me.

I Will Be Gone For A While

Those of you that know me here on My Opera, (or anyone new that visits my blog) I will be gone for the Christmas break starting December 17 (I get to exempt all 3 days of my exams!!). I will also turn 18 years on January 1, 2009 (what a way to start the New Year). I will be back after three to four weeks. In the meantime, I will try to create more avatars, custom stages, etc., while I am gone. Please send me anything you want to be shared with the rest of the Opera Community (custom stages for example) and I will post it. Also send me any comments, concerns, questions, or regards while I’m gone and I will answer them when I get back and look at whatever on my blog. In conclusion, have a great Christmas and a happy new year and “may God bless you in your time of need.”

Video Corner

Here are a lot of random game related videos, and I mean random, lol!

Using Pokemon Skillfully

Lugialady has a blog asking who is the worst pokemon and why. I will provide the same service, but I will tell you how to use a "Weak Pokemon." There is no such thing as a weak Pokemon(except for Magikarp, etc., you get the picture). You just have to know what situation you should put the Pokemon in. Just leave me a comment anytime and I will try to answer it. Anyway, here is a video of Magnezone150 and myself, Murkrow, in a great battle. It was tough fore both of us, especially for me when you rely on a single strategy. Anyway, click on the link and enjoy.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

SSBB is a great game and I have a lot of fun playing it. I have photos of all the characters. It is easy get unlockable stuff but if you personally need a question or want to chat about the game, feel free to ask me. There are some things such as using the characters like switching between Samus and Zero suit form, Pokemon Trainer, etc., that took me a while to figure out. So as I said, feel free to ask questions if needed. Also send in photos or advice about great custom stages you have made.

Other Wi-fi games I play

I play a lot of Pokemon online, but I also play Mario Kart DS, Star Fox Command, and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. All you need to do is give me your game name and your DS friend code. I play on Fridays (3:15 PM - 6:00 Pm Eastern time, same as Pokemon). Visit my blog and look around If you like and look at my photos.
