Essentially the Only One

by Richard

An historic moment

, ,

Looks like Obama has got the Democratic Presidential nomination.

Not something I would have predicted. Maybe times really are changing - and for the better, I hope.

Ok, now I can tell everyone that I am, in fact, an Obama girl & have been for many months.

I met with his campaign people here in St. Louis back in October and they told me this would happen but in all honesty, I didn't think it would. Can't wait to see who his running mate is. Here's a link to the list of candidates:

Good for you, Naomi!

Naomi 4. June 2008, 03:03

Hey, unfortunately I can't claim any responsibility for this. All I did was give them a few tidbits of advice & I doubt that made much difference.

Richard 4. June 2008, 03:20

I bet it did!

:D

Naomi 4. June 2008, 03:26

Hoping I get a chance to make a difference now that we're in the general election. We shall see...

Richard 4. June 2008, 03:29

Well, now it gets serious. Happily, I see a lot of energized people all around me who are really engaging for the first time in decades, it seems!

Naomi 4. June 2008, 03:33

That's great. I get livid when I hear people say they aren't going to vote. I consider it to be not only a right but an obligation.

Congrats to Obama.

Lets hope he doesnt meet with an "unfortunate accident" or any "crazed lone gunmen" along the way!

A great moment,
A time for the generations to remember,"It's Our Time" !!
Lets work all together to make it a valuable time!

Richard 4. June 2008, 12:31

The fear that he will be assassinated is acute. A lot of people I know - primarily African-American - are worried about this. I don't think it's going to happen, but there is an unfortunate history in this country (King, the Kennedys) of trailblazers being cut down.

But America in the 2000s is a very different country from America in the 1960s.

Lois 4. June 2008, 13:26

I'm sure the security is much better now.

Angeliki 4. June 2008, 13:48

I feel we should start thinking positive in a day like this ,a historical day in every meaning of the word,
and let his security people handle Barack's safety.
Our job was to make sure we will be the nominee and as citizens we should celebrate today,
it is outrageous of thinking the possibility of a tragedy before he is even nominated.
Tt is proven thinking catastrophes ,
it never brought positive results !
See life with a smile! Bush's days are numbered!

Richard 4. June 2008, 16:50

I think are right, Lois, but I certainly understand the fears. Now that he is candidate, I strongly suspect that the most thorough security protocols yet seen will be put in place. Never underestimate the power of racism.

Wakajawaka 4. June 2008, 17:44

It should be fascinating to see if and how the Neo Cons will manage to rig this one.

In the red corner, the first coloured President in US history (are the faceless few ready for that?)......and in the blue corner, a 75 year old coffin dodging war monger!

Based on age alone the choice for me would be very simple.

I hope that come election time Obama strolls it all the way to the Oval Office.

Allan 4. June 2008, 18:09

U.S is bound to change it's government. Every poll I've heard about during the last few years suggest it.

Not that it's any of my business anyway

Richard 4. June 2008, 19:48

 I think a lot of people worldwide would be very happy to see Obama as President.
