Heh. I thought the titles said CRASS. The grass is much lovelier. That's a stellar picture.

Thanks, Matt. Yet another one from my vacation - I'm slowly wading through them all!

i like this richard, but what appeals to me most is the background of the grey skies. isn't that how it is in england? grey skies that bring to light . . . .

Richard 23. August 2008, 01:19

Not always, but the cloud in this particular picture had a lovely shade of grey - I deliberately framed the shot to capture that contrast with the yellow of the field and the green of the trees.

It was a stormy afternoon - I was rained on very shortly after taking that shot. Here's a view of the field on Newlands Corner.

and i love the golden glow of the last summer's breath . . . makes me feel like i'm walking there myself. thank you richard!

That's a calendar photo, definitely. Maybe worth some money? Not that money is the point, of course.

Anyway, I was thinking about these group of photos of yours the other day standing on the bus stop, and about photography in general (a squirrel that I ran into set it off); and one of the things I was thinking is that your trip was so inspiring to you. I think you have really moved to a new level with all of these -- you've crossed the line into the professional realm. If you don't mind me saying so.

That's a great compliment, Edward and I appreciate it very much. I am getting better at framing and composition, and much of this is due to the fact that I try to use a tripod wherever possible these days. Of course, this means lugging it about with me everywhere, but it's proven to be well worth it. Having a mounted camera is allowing me to concentrate much more on what I am actually photographing.

One other little addition has been worth its weight in gold - a small spirit level that attaches to the flash mount on my camera. That's the main reason my landscapes have improved so much - I am actually shooting level. Without it, my horizons are only marginally related to reality!

Edward Piercy 23. August 2008, 20:41

Nice level!

Got GPS yet? LOL

Richard 23. August 2008, 20:43

No... (I believe the latest cameras are including it though)!

Edward Piercy 23. August 2008, 21:04

Perhaps you could get one of these mounts. You could find your way pretty much anywhere in the universe with that one.

Richard 23. August 2008, 21:06

Wow - yes, you could!
