Essentially the Only One

by Richard

Verse 134

, ,

I pass, like night, from land to land ;
I have strange power of speech ;
That moment that his face I see,
I know the man that must hear me :
To him my tale I teach.

Bye-bye, Lehman Brothers?Verse 135

Parody 134

My ears catch noise
of earthly mirth
that never was on ship
nor in shared berth, bunked
in cabin's ice-held grip.

I look toward the gleeful sounds,
scarce certain, yet in there should be
one who will receive from me
the telling that can set me free

My heart beats faster!
Is the noise demonic laughter
rising behind the wooden portal?
Dear Heaven - these sounds
are surely mortal!

I stumble, am I still in dream?
Doth God throw dice to set his scheme
and I begin again my pain
upon that frosted frightening main?

The thought is there - it must not thrive!
before I reach Verse 135.
