Essentially the Only One

by Richard

Verse 7

, , , ,

Sometimes a troop of damsels glad,
An abbot on an ambling pad,
Sometimes a curly shepherd lad,
Or long-hair'd page in crimson clad
Goes by to tower'd Camelot;
And sometimes through the mirror blue
The knights come riding two and two.
She hath no loyal Knight and true,
The Lady of Shalott.

I love the 7th Verse!!
the poetry picture continues in words and image...
I hope you will rotate these lovely images in the future verses Richard,
they really make a difference ...

Glad you like the photographs, Angeliki - it all depends on whether I have one in my collection that at least somewhat compliments the verse. smile

The tower makes me think of Rapunzel.

Great photo to go with this verse. Those rock formations in front of it are really something. They look like people! I'm wondering if they were placed there or are natural.

Thanks, good people. smile PainterWoman, the rock formations are natural, but certainly do resemble figures.

Towers have so many interesting connotations - if I remember correctly from my Medieval Lit class they can stand for the romance of power, the illusion of earthly delights, and a mistaken belief in man's ability to create things of permanence. After all, towers usually fall, sooner or later! (I was thinking of the Tower of Babel.)

Yes, I've always been fascinated by towers. A reoccuring daydream of mine actually involves living in one! But, as you say and as in this particular case of Dunstanburgh Castle, they do fall!

So it's very appropriate that you work (sort of) at a place with towers!
