Essentially the Only One

by Richard

Glorious spam

,

Spam is back - if it really ever went away.

I've always liked it, even as I acknowledge that it is hardly the healthiest food on this planet. I guess that makes me well-prepared for the hard times that seem to be converging from every direction, but, as yet, I have not felt compelled to the embrace the spam diet.

Let's leave it to the Pythons for the definitive ode to spam.

Hahah. One of my favorites. Hawaiians eat way more spam per capita than any other state.

I have a food recipe book called The Book of Spam. I bought it because the title alone made me guffaw :D

wickedlizard 15. November 2008, 18:33

Did you know that SPAM is a code-word for MAPS
It akshully means "MyA**PushesSpam""
Thought you'd like to know what SPAM really means.

But there is also a bogus meaning that some SPAM clowns have written up and you'll find it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(food)

:D

 Thanks for the link, Loku. "Something Posing As Meat" is my favorite!

Thanks for the laugh. I'm not sure that before now I had actually ever seen the original piece but I've certainly heard Jeff sing the song a few million times.

PainterWoman 19. November 2008, 20:08

 To tell you the truth, I don't think I've ever eaten spam.

noah counte 19. November 2008, 20:43

Me neither. The very idea of potted meats is abhorent to me - and was even when I ate meat!

edwardpiercy 19. November 2008, 20:46

@ Matt. Hawaiians, huh? I suppose it might (might) make a passable substitute for pork.

@ Richard. I like SPAM -- a little. Fried and with a lot of mustard. But it isn't cheap these days, and I find there are other things that are better and cheaper.

CultureSurfer 19. November 2008, 20:51

I have DEFINITELY not eaten Spam unless I was unaware of it. :yikes:

edwardpiercy 19. November 2008, 21:18

Aren't you curious?

Of course, in Vietnam they drink bat's blood. I'm not really curious about that one, I'll admit.

CultureSurfer 20. November 2008, 14:09

Not curious enough to try it. Blech. p:

musickna 20. November 2008, 14:15

 I grew up on it; it always seemed to be around somewhere. My favorite dish is spam & baked beans with a couple a fried eggs and slices of fried bread.

Of course, I haven't eaten that particular combination for decades. Just as well...

CultureSurfer 20. November 2008, 17:43

Sounds like a heart attack on a plate.

But you seem to have fared quite well despite the grease. p:
