Essentially the Only One

Iconic Hummer brand sold to Chinese manufacturer

Yet another signal of the shift in the balance of economic power away from the United States.

Actually, the Chinese are welcome to them - horrible, road-hogging, monstrosities that belong, at best, on some wild, rocky land far away from the city. Not on my suburban streets, blocking my view on the road and often driven by young men who don't really seem able to afford them.

Meanwhile, perhaps a new awakening of American ingenuity can be applied to producing cars that are efficient, cheap and popular. In other words, world beaters.

It's time.

The original Hummers serve a purpose for the military, but have no place on the roads, I agree. I wouldn't have been able to buy gas for them. They got about 8 mpg

 And that's probably on a good day. At least they get better mileage than an old World War Two half-track that a relative of one my friends at work owns - but I'd take the half-track any day. I love those old war machines. And they get put to much better use!

When our world goes into the post apocalyptic abyss, like in the Mad Max movies, we'll miss those kick ass hummers. Just you wait!

As heavy as the Hummers look, it doesn't seem like they could go very fast. Yet, whenever I watch CSI Miami, the detectives are chasing criminals in them and it looks like they are going extremely fast. Can you imagine turning a corner and weaving in and out of traffic in a Hummer? Not believable as far as I'm concerned.

@ Pam

CSI Miami is full of ****

Their departmental expenses must run about $100 million per year with all that stuff they got. Not to mention salaries and overtime.
