Essentially the Only One

What a let down

,

Playing Oasis's Be Here Now once again in what is proving to be vain attempt to find much worth in this record. Overlong songs, weak and derivative (of themselves) melodies, and cluttered production. This really is one boring record.

Such a fate hits most rock artists - really, there are few who maintain artistic consistency - and should be expected. But when the work they did beforehand seems so good (Definitely Maybe and What's The Story (Morning Glory)), it's a shame not to see the same standards maintained.

Nevermind, even The Beatles could be inconsistent. What is a little sad about Be Here Now is that it led to a decline that has not been arrested, despite the recent and reasonable Don't Believe The Truth. The heady days when Oasis seemed to be the pinnacle of what a rock 'n' roll band could be are long over.
