Mehindi is the art of decorating one's body with temporary henna tattoos. On pale skin, the henna color wears off in about two weeks. Traditionally mehindi is done for weddings, but we chose to do it as part of our "Keep the Mom's Sane During Fall Break" effort. Just about everyone over the age of 5 got something done - the boys went for sharks, daggers, and an abortive attempt at a snake (somehow it turned into a flower....then the sleeve came down and smeared it....then it went to a traditional Hindu symbol, which Adolf Hitler stole and made into the swazstika.) The girls went for traditional feet and arm designs. Mehindi is also done in Pakistan and many Arabic countries, so there are basically two types - Arabic and Indian mehindi. Don't ask me the difference; we googled both and came up with the same photos.
