I'm back...
My last semester
after a while i'm not writing @ My Opera.com, i'd like to write some catch up information about what i did about this semester. Well this semester starting with a peaceful condition so i can make a culinary expedition with some of my friends especially Budi and Denvil around the canteen in different faculty @ campus Depok, University of Indonesia. We really do try many dishes and compare each other.
But suddenly it became rush as mid exam approach. Assignments, increasing difficulty of subject, and i should help ICO student understand what they are actually learning...
I saw in their eyes about confuseness about this subject. As my first experience to serve as lecture assistant i'd like to give my best in my capability.Well, i did my mid-exam but i wasn't expected the result. I think i'm failing all
. After that i got many assignment which didn't let the student to take a deep breath and several activities in campus and outside. Then, it came a time when i became busy with final exam... it was completely destroyed... oh
i let my guard down... and the final marks was falling and failing down
Next semester must rise up to the top... i must working hard if i want it better... be commit, persist..
Opera UI action
I admitted that nothing much we did in last semester only the first event (and big) we held at COMPFEST 2009 @ Balairung University in Indonesia. I completely struggled in the last semester (my courses) and make a long running lobby to helpdesk also using SCeLE (a moodle based Computer Science student course website) to promote Opera (i called it Opera|CampusNews program). The fact is Opera browser was removed in some labs and it was quite surprising me after all learnt the fact. The helpdesk said They were lack of people to manage the computers in labs and installing too many softwares were too much for them to be maintained. But i think SCeLE is very effective way to talk about Opera and our lectures read too. I offered my friend who learnt too about Opera browser which vanished from the computer labs a solution for using Opera USB version and can be downloaded from my local student network drive (i specially open the permission for them on folder called browser where i stored my browsers USB program, i stored the fox and Opera). Suddenly, I learnt that the new version of Opera has been installed in our brand new labs (i called it because the facility using the unusual hardwares (computers) according the latest technology
) and asking the helpdesk to bringing back Opera. Voila, before the final exam Opera is back with the latest edition. Some of my friends like the Dragonfly and try it to build their website project. I also makes an approach to our lecturer which has concern with Campus-Enterprise relationship which has successfully builds cooperation with other enterprise companies which have their own campus program. I hope it will be easier for us to do any event with lecture supports. Before the end of the semester i and my friends which are Opera Campus Crews got contacted by Ms. Putri, our country manager at Opera, to help them explaining the current and the future customers of Opera @ Opera Software Stand, Indonesia's Computer Festival Jakarta Site (the biggest one because it is hold in big metropolitan cities around the archipelago). We agreed to fill the space. On the second day of event i managed to get to the site with the experience of getting trapped into traffic jam
. I slept. Later than, i found out that i got trapped again in the site because the site itself is quite big and so many stands around with crowd people.
I forgot to ask Putri how i could get into the stand, in fact, i don't know where the stand is until i ask the information center... bwahahaha. I found my friend from UI has arrived earlier. After calm down myself, i started to learn how to dealing with people and pay attention to my friend, Putri, Zi Bin how they dealt. After a while, i asked by Putri to spread the Opera brochures and she told me that approximately there was about 10000 people and she gave me about 500 brochures maybe more (it was almost lunch time). I worried a little bit about how i can spread them about but luckily less than 20 minutes the brochures all out. Maybe you wonder how i get it done. I stood in the gate of hall B (hall B is where Opera Stand stood) which is the most accessed then i choose the position next to a guy sprayed with red paint with sparkling glitter and i know he is hired to do so from Mobile Operator Company. In front of my position is the stand who sells paid Accounting Softwares. When that guy offered his brochure, i followed him to give at the same person too. If someone rejected mine, i offered again, "Free software sir!" That technique is effective. I also told them to visit Opera Stand. Although i and Iqbal only offered two hours. We did it until nite. We explained many things: Opera 10 beta, Opera Mini, Opera DSi, Opera Mobile in HTC, etc. I remember people tends to ask why Opera open the stand while not selling anything. I and Iqbal sometimes responded it is all about educating people that there are several browsers exist and it is Opera. I later went home when another friends of mine came visit FKI and before that visited the Cellular Show next to FKI Festival, enjoying the night of Jakarta with Busway (TransJakarta) (see the beautiful scenery of night Jakarta such as Hotel Indonesia Water Fountain, Projected Monas), and used the last night train to Depok (we did the gamble thing). I arrived to my home almost midnite. Okay the summary:
1. Opera Stand @ COMPFEST 2009 Balairung University of Indonesia, Depok which has about 2000 people around the event. Opera stand is one of the most visited stand along with others (SUN Microsystem OSUM program, Microsoft Innovation Center (Microsoft's campus program), UI's Cisco Labs, GameDev UI)
2. Completing the basic challenge of Opera Campus
3. Making an approach to lecturer and introducing Opera Campus Crew as Opera Education Initiative
4. Participating in Indonesian Biggest Computer Festival (FKI 2009) @ Opera Software Stand
