Microsoft UK Tech.Days 2011

Few days ago I've attended UK Tech.Days 2011. I've been there with my society - Kingston University Computer Geeks - btw I love these guys p our society is has around 320 members now. We've attended to The public cloud for IT Professionals taking place in Vue at Fulham (London) on May 25.

We've seen grat speakers such as Steve Plank, who talked about Windows Azure with SQL Azure & Windows Azure AppFabric and how it works. Microsoft is working on pretty interesting cloud technologies right now. AppFabric is just one of many, but it's the core middleware platform for cloud development, which means it allows to deploy existing applications to the cloud. Most of the things within Azure including AppFabric are able to be controlled through PowerShell which speeds up the process a great deal.

Besides Azure there was a talk about Office 365 and Windows Lync Server 2010. As the cloud development progresses the more applications and tasks can be done through cloud. There are limitless possibilities and they are every where. There was a speaker from EasyJet - Bert Craven, which "walked" us through very interesting stuff how EasyJet uses the cloud to communicate within the airport as well as to communicate with air planes. I thought the idea with the airport communication was brilliant, especially as it saves airport's resources for other things and doesn't relay on the servers located within the airport premises.

Back to Lync Server thought. As far as I was concerned the server was created with thought about offices, communication and collaboration. I might have seen these in school, and that I would call great idea. The servers can be reached by users even from home, the platform has gerat resources really.

There was also speech about Office 365 and how it enables people to create documents, edit and save them not only while working on computer but as well when working on a mobile. Sharepoint enables files to be saved to the cloud and the pulled/edited any time.

The whole day was awesome, I really hope to attend more Microsoft UK Tech.Days next year.

Gnome 3 - So far so ugly. Linux + Flash != Harmony
