But in Windows 7, after you close the window, an icon remains on the taskbar. This is to alert you in case of any message. But the icon eats away precious space on the taskbar. And many of the you would not want others to see that you’re running an IM program.
Q: How to hide Windows Live Messenger icon?
1. Right-click on Windows Live Messenger’s entry in the Start Menu.
2. Under [Compatibility] tab, check [Run this program in compatibility mode for]
3. Select [Windows XP (Service Pack 3)] from the drop-down list.
4. The Messenger icon disappears from the taskbar and appears in the tray (where time is displayed).
