safety, microsoft, safer internet day, takeover
...
Today is the
Safer Internet Day 2008, which is a day when how to use the Internet and stay safe is promoted towards youths across Europe. A very good initiative, which should probably be extended to adults as well, since not everyone is as well-versed when it comes to knowing how to stay safe in the on-line world.
In other news,
Yahoo has rejected the
bid from Microsoft. Unfortunately they just say that the bid is too low, not that they are not interested in a merger at all.

microsoft, takeover, yahoo
After
Microsoft announced their plan to acquire Yahoo the strangest of alliances seem to form. Yahoo’s arch-rival
Google posted in their official blog about this is bad for everyone, and media is reporting that
Yahoo instead is considering allying itself with the same Google. Strange things are indeed happening in the IT business these days.
Another interesting issue is how a possible buy-out of Yahoo would impact Opera Software, considering that
Yahoo is the default search engine since a year ago.

microsoft, takeover, yahoo
Seems there is a shopping spree among IT companies these days, not long after
Fast, MySQL and Trolltech announced being purchased, today
Microsoft announced plans to buy Yahoo! for another insane amount of money. I wonder what will be next.

sun, microsoft, fast, mysql
...
Seems like it is January sale season on Scandinavian IT companies, first
Microsoft buys Fast, the search engine company, then
Sun acquires MySQL, makers of the famous open-source database engine, and today it is announced that
Nokia is purchasing Trolltech, makers of the Qt toolkit. I wonder what will be next?
Edit: Speculations are running wild, Digi.no looks at Opera.
